My New (and only) Strat
Even through my troubles with eBay, I was able to win this great guitar. The link is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...id=p2761.l1259
It is a HSS or fat Strat MIM and it was bought at a great price considering it was made in 2007 MZ7xxx. I had trouble with eBay where I had to return a guitar that was a great deal, but not a great guitar. That one was $300 with case but the guitar was MN9xxx and had been used pretty thoroughly. I'll be getting the guitar tomorrow by local pickup and I'll be sure to post some pics up. Does anyone know about the HSS and how it compares to the typical SSS. I've been reading numerous threads on the differences mainly being: No quack with the humbucker (which i tend to dislike because its so sharp) Humbucker has a higher output so it is potentially louder and also it has more mid. Fuller and deeper sound. And better for solos. How does it play blues rock? I wanted to share my purchase with the rest of you guitar fanatics (me being one of them. I just love the sound and look of guitars). http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...id=p2761.l1259 |

I wouldn't say they don't have quack, but there is less. And I'm not sure about the mids, humbuckers tend to have less than single coils. And they're not nearly as bright as single coils, either. They play blues rock pretty good, but I'd say they're better for country. But they are definitely hotter and have a fuller sound than a single coil. By the way, I'm talking about a bridge HB, I've never had one in another position.

Normally the treble side sits a little closer to the strings, but if you check Fender's Setup Guide you'll see that they recommend that the humbucker be set at the same distance (1.6mm with the strings held down at the last fret) for both sides.
Of course that's just a starting point and you can adjust from there. |
