classic vibe 50's or 60's: the better strat?
hi i've been getting serious GAS for a new guitar. i originally wanted to get a used MIM strat off eBay and i did get one but i had to return it.
im still thinking about a MIM strat but after reading all these rave reviews for the CV squier stratocasters im seriously considering them. which one is better in sound and playability, the 50's or the 60's Squier? i recognized that the 50's has Alnico IIIs while the 60's has Alnico Vs and the 50's has a maple neck while the 60's has a rosewood neck i personally like the look of the 60's because of the 3 tone sunburst and the rosewood neck but which one feels better to you guys? one more question: what tremolo set would fit in this as a replacement for the bridge that i heard was subpar to the expectations of the guitar i want a full block too! might just give up the Fender name for a Squier |

It's all about which pickups and body colors you prefer. I chose the 60's classic Vibe Strat because I liked the pickups' sound and I like a 3-tone sunburst and I don't mind a rosewood neck.
I dropped in one of these (easy as cake): http://store.guitarfetish.com/minmeimstupt.html ...and I could not be happier! The extra parts (saddles, springs, trem-arm) will come in handy in my shop someday. My USA Strat went bye-bye on craigslist yesterday. I am a Squier Man now

excellent avatar above! rory doeskin and tele
good looks aside i think it boils down to the pups and the neck choice
the 60's cv maybe warm smooth & mellow more refined pup electronics w/ the V's the 50's cv one piece (fast) maple neck and III pups -a raw edge its hard to pick you just have to play them and decide bw breathing thru a darth vader mask as i type

I tried both, I felt they were pretty identical in feel and the sound was very very similar, you can't really go wrong. I also tried the white one with the anodized aluminium pickguard, which sounds a little darker and rounder than the others, which is the one I ended up getting. If you can't try them for yourself, you might as well go on colour preference, they are all excellent.

Has anybody noticed that the color of the neck CV 50s strat in Lake Placid Blue is a lot paler than the others? What gives?

If you're buying one for YOU, though, I'd suggest you get the one YOU prefer...

Had both 50's:
![]() But sold it....not that it wasn't nice....this one just speaks to me, just want to change the pots and maybe the trem block. Awesome pickups in both, useable bridge pickup in both (although I want to wire the tone pot to the bridge), dang nice Strats:

Just picked up a LPB 50's at the Musicians Friend Retail store in KC, it spoke loudly to me, I already had the 60's and am in love with it also. I wound buying it and a black lefty USA standard Strat with a hard case for my teenager. $999.00 out the door for both.
