Yes Virginia,Fender Did make a Coral Pink Stratocaster!

In the latest issue of Premier Guitar Magazine is an article about a 1961 Fender Stratocaster in Tahitian Coral Wow,this is a big deal. For years experts have said that this color did not exist.According to Vintage Guitar Info Guy "Fender never had a color in its pallet called Coral Pink or Salmon Pink. This color is mostly likely Fiesta Red, which has a very pink hue." Wrong! This is like finding the Holy Grail of Fender Telecasters.

Is it not very similar to Shell Pink?

You can find any car color from any manufacturer and any year (including 1958 Chrysler Tahitian Coral) here :

http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/

Looking at the chip chart, it's easy to see the difference between Tahitian Coral and Shell Pink!

Could Chris Rea's battered old Strat be Coral or just another faded Fiesta Red?

And

this Shell Pink un is mine.

Definitely not Tahitian Coral, but could perhaps be mistaken for a candy pink in this photo?

Very interesting - quite a number of years ago I saw a 60's strat still owned by the original purchaser that looked like that. He claimed the color was "coral" but I had never heard of that. Although it's been awhile, I remember thinking it didn't look like either shell pink or fiesta red.

Who's to say it's not a very old respray? Paint stuck to the neck proves what, exactly?

My father used to respray guitars in the basement in New York in the late '50s and early '60s. Shiny pristine guitars were worth money back then and beat up junk wasn't. Guitars went down the cellar with "mojo" and emerged without....

Great news from Reranch!

Hi guys,

I sent an Email to Bill at Reranch with a link to this thread, and being a guitarist himself, was very interested. He said that when he and his better half return from hanging out and playing music in Texas this holiday weekend, he's going to start working on three colors to add to their line; Tahitian Coral, Cool Vanilla and Pelham Blue!

Woohoo!!!

Hi Guys:

My understanding of the old original Fender Shop is that they did all sorts of Custom Colors (which the site says this is). I have read that Fender used the Dupont line in the early days... but... when their supplier was out, they took whatever they could.

I think the question is: Was Coral Pink ever a part of the Regular Line?

As I'm sure everyone in here knows, nitrocellulose paint changes color over it's life depending on it's environment. Folks that played outside more than inside, eventually had much less yellow in the color of their paint-job... so a Redder Fiesta Red would lose it's Yellow component and would become much more pink over the years.

Right but they didn't say anthing about "tahitian coral". They said, no "coral pink" or "salmon pink". Maybe you can elaborate. Is the fact that is any kind of coral significant? Still it is a cool guitar and super rare color.

Fender would do one-off custom colors back in those days ... but i also think it might be a faded Fiesta
