I've made two audio clips! First is my guitar with fender texas special pups, the other one is just the same, but I use my handwounded pickups!

As a guitar I use squier stratocaster standard, I think 2003, and cube 30.

texas special:

Home made:

I know my playing isn't perfect, but you can (or maybe can't ) hear the difference

I think both look amazing, especially the Orange one. I LOVE that colour. With a cream guard and maple neck.... wow...

The sunburst is pretty nice too, but I prefer my sunbursts a tad more brown in the center.

Keep up the amazing work!

Most people do, but I like it brighter.
I saw a photo of one 3 tone sunburst strat, which whas also darker, but the picture was taken from strange angle and under some strange light, and it looked like a 2 tone and brighter. Well, I liked it so my sunburst actually looks like that imaginary sunburst

Great work Robi!
Those guitars sounds really articulated, probably a better amp would do a trick.

17 years old!!!! At 17, I could barely hold a hammer the right way round - and couldn't tell a router from a route map...........

You're bloody amazing!! I'd be sending photos of these to the Fender Custom Shop and asking for a job if I was you!!!!!!!!

Where did you learn these woodworking skills??

I was planning on giving up the guitar building for a few years but now I have changed my mind!!
You even handwound you own pickups!! :O
Did you have a winder or how did you do them? :P
The orange one is REALLY nice but I wouldnt mind the sunburst either!!

I don't know what to say, thank you guys!

I just wanted to make my own guitar, and I made my first guitar about a year ago, only with a hand drill and with this (I don't know how it's called in English):
http://www.pevec.hr/upl_stalna/einhe...a_bs_360_e.gif

Few weeks after I started building that guitar, I discovered forums... And that's where I learned most of the stuff I know. I met some people who are good luthiers and also good people, so they gave me many advices.. And.. That's it!

This is my first guitar. It's made of fir tree (the neck also) and has no truss rod.. Disaster

BUT! The sound is amazing, and it is a good guitar

I also installed my own switcing system: 2 on/on switches, with left one you can use neck or bridge pickup, and right one adds middle pickup to neck/bridge. I never used 3rd position on 5 way switch, and often had to switch from 2 to 4, so this way it was faster

sorry, I missed a question.
No, I haven't got a winder, I used hand drill to wind them.

I have made a counter too, but I didn't use it this time, I was measureing the resistance until I got what I wanted.

Irishtele:
I have just these 2 pictures... And here you can really see how ugly that guitar is

http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/226/22232917fs2.jpg

http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/3749/37674800rq9.jpg

But that was a long time ago.

Here's my another build if you are interested: http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-home...line-tele.html

I would really like to do a LP, but first I have to finish everything I started. (I have a lot of work to do for some other people so I don't have much time to finish everything as I would like)

brewwagon:

Soon I'll have some jigs and stuff, my workshop is really small so I don't have enough space to do something complicated. But within a month or two I'm moving everything to a big empty room

Btw, thanks for the link!

Hey Robi,

I'm super impressed with your work and agree you could have a future in the Fender Custom shop if you wanted. Looking at the photos of the bodies made me wonder if any builder has tried to make a Strat body out of two different woods - say an alder and ash body. It would be interesting to hear a body like that.

Keep up the excellent work!

I'm not so sure about the Custom Shop. I would rather start my own little company or something like that.

My friend has made a strat body with 2 different woods - maple and american walnut.

He has a CNC machine at home (he built it himself) and he made everything except electronics, tuners and bridge out of wood. He put a big piece of walnut instad of pickguard, it looks great.

One down, one to go :D

First one is finished, I put a push pull pot on tone 2 pot, it turns neck pickup on, so I can get 7 sounds (5 standard, neck + bridge and all 3 together)

And some specs:
Body - Ash
Neck - one piece maple neck (rosewood skunk stripe)
Tremolo - GFS (I'll put some better tremolo when I save some money)
Tuners - wilkinson
Finish - body nitro, neck PU
Frets - dunlop 6100
Pickups - handwounded by me

Excellent work Robi, you have obviously got a fair bit of self discapline to do that amount of painstaking work. I didn't start making my own guitars until I was 23, I don't think I could have done it at 17. I do know how much work you would have put in without a big range of power tools though, I started with just an electric drill, a jigsaw a router and some hand tools, it takes a lot of work. If you are thinking of doing it for a living go for it, you obviously have a gift.

+1. I'm building with limited tools as well. It would not have been possible for me at your age. I had to grow older and "mellow" first. My hat's off to you. Nice work!

I made one more clip today, but this time was red strat's turn! Playing isn't as good as last time but you can hear the sound.
