Harmony H802 project

Hi, not sure if this in the right place. if it isn't then please move it to where it should be. I've been drooling over all the teles and strats posted but never posted myself until now. Would love to have a tele but I'm 16 and jobless so I just can't afford one.

This is the guitar my older brother got for a Christmas about 14 years ago. The paint is chipping where a sticker came off and tape on the pick guard where its cracked.

The neck pickup works, but only at a certain volume. I would love to rewire it but feel a little incompetent to do that right now. Would also love to repaint but don't have the means.

I decided to take the stain off the fingerboard. I sanded the top with 320 grit sand paper then sanded more with steel wool.

Went to the gun shop to get some tru oil and they were all out so I'm not sure what I'll finish it with. Some of the frets were coming up a little bit so I tapped them down.

Since I didn't have the stuff I wanted to finish the neck I decided to clean it all well and I found this- pretty nasty.

Can't wait to finish the neck and get it stringed up again!

Clean it up but don't strip it. It looks cool....Check all the wire connections..I'm sure you know someone with a soldering iron if anything needs to be re-done....What's up with the tone pot????......Find a parttime job to make some$$$$$$$ to pay for anything that needs to be replaced, tuners, bridge, whatever. And good luck...I love those old cheapies..........................Cheers

That is a sexy guitar man. If I were you I'd get it set-up. Find a guitar tech that has a good rep or a friend's dad and get them to do all the little things. Buy a new set of strings if you haven't already (but I must assume you have).

I love a lot of the old Harmony pickups. Dan Aurbach of the Black Keys plays a lot of hollow body Harmonys on his albums. I am envious. Don't fret over that guitar, get it fixed up and play the heck out of it because it is a beauty. If I had a tele here I'd trade it.

-Here's the Harmony project I did earlier this summer. The pics are all loaded backwards so just go to the 2nd page and work back through the first.

I've looked all over for some tru oil with no luck, and I'm not willing to pay more for shipping than the product itself sooooo I'm thinking of using tung oil or minwax poly.

I get Tru Oil from Walmart in the sporting goods area near the firearms stuff.

Finished it today.

Subtle changes but it's a lot cleaner and it sounds good.
Its got about 3 coats of Formby's low gloss tung oil on the neck. Didn't put it anywhere besides that. New strings for the first time in a long time. Tomorrow I'm going to get some more screws for the pick guard.

Anyone know which neck is a good replacement for the H-802? If the poster of this thread could email me. I just won a bid on this for $77 on the EBAY and I haven't received it yet but I am trying to do some research so I can get it restored as best as possible. I play trashy Rock n Roll and I was excited to hear all of the good reviews from players of this one.

But yeah, it should ship this week and I'll probably get to play a show or two with it and then see if I can turn it around!

My fiance tells me that's a load of crap!

I told her I wanted to start investing in weird *** vintages and sell them and she said I'll just keep them all.

What do you guys think?? ;)

Cheers,
