Strat wiring mod, HELP please.

Hi Guys

Just bought a Hot rails for Strat.

When I install the Hot Rails I want to incorporate this switching mod I found (see attached pic), but the diagram I have shows the middle pickup tone pot replaced with a push pull. My Strat has a TBX circuit, which I don't want to lose. Can the mod be done using a push pull on the neck tone control, and if so what changes would have to be made to the wiring?

Hoping someone can help.

I was also thinking of maybe fitting a push pull on the volume to coil tap the hot rails....maybe

You should be able to use the push pull pot in any location as it works separately from the normal pot functions.

Correct - the pot part of a push/pull is just your standard 250k/500k pot, can be wired as a tone or volume; I even have one with a HAAS-sound midrange kit wired to it. You can't wire it as a TBX, though, as the TBX takes a special stacked/dual pot.

Just "move" the switch-part of the p/p pot in the drawing to the middle pot, and you'll be fine, leave your TBX as-is.

I don't think you will find that a coil-shunt will do much to the tone of your hot-rails - except, make it a bit less hot. Try a coils-parallel switch, if your are just looking for some tonal variety.

Thanks for the info, deceptively simple really, I thought having the TBX and all would make things really complicated.......you live and learn.

Yeah, the TBX has a bit of mystique around it, but it's just a fancy tone control, so far as the circuit is concerned - it just hooks up like any other tone pot.
