Tortoise shell pickguard on oly white Strat?

Thinking of dropping CS 69s into my Jimmy Vaughan. How would a tortoise shell pickguard look with oly white?

Dave Alvin (The Blasters, X) plays one. I think the Roadhouse Stratocasters came in white (at least in shoreline gold).

Olympic white with tort looks great. My JV already had been converted to tort when I got it. I even bought another JV with the original white pg just so I could make it original but ended up putting the tort back on.
I'd be willing to bet that at least half Oly JV owners replace the pickguard like you are talking about.

Sweet! Where did you buy the pick guard? Fender or other?

Can I use any standard Strat pick guard or do I need a special one for the Jimmy? (I'm thinking in terms of number of holes. I used to have a Muddy Waters signature Tele and the hole configuration was different...)

I got it from Guitarfetish off evilbay.. it's prob'ly a MIJ/MIM Fender part
but was cheap! if you go with aftermarket pickguards, there's always
the chance you'll need to make some tweaks: usually increasing the size
of the holes for the pots, sometimes a bit of sanding in pickup holes, etc.

I mostly just wanted to find a tortoise guard that looked OK i.e. non-funky.

so: I have yet to drill the extra holes but the stock JV guard is old-style 8-screw
while most new guards are 11-screw.. I'm not going to beef over a few extra
screw hole that aren't going to be visible anyway. if this would bug you, then
you need an 8-screw vintage-style guard and those are mostly gonna be
black or white single-ply unless you go custom-made.

I have a Muddy Waters Tele as well and I swapped the guard on that 'cuz I
didn't care for the crazy screw pattern!

yesh I hear ya there, Bubbanov. I've got a stock Oly White JV as well.
AAMOF that Oly white w/tortoise guard Strat is a JV body, but it has a MIM
Fender Squier Series neck that I had but had kinda forgot about.
Bare Knuckle Pickups Irish Tours as well, yay!

BTW I'll bet Liz Hurley wasn't givin' up something ol' Hughie had a hankerin'
for! anyhoo, the whole affair turned out to work well for Jay Leno as it was
Grant's first appearance after getting busted which was the first time The Leno
Tonight Show beat Letterman in the ratings for that time slot.

I put a tort guard on my Oly white '08 Am. Std. shortly after I got it..thinking now of switching it back...or maybe mint green..?

First day home

Don't have a pic with the tort guard handy but looks exactly like this one from Fenders site (which is the look I was going for)

too bad p/g's on a strat aren't easily interchangable like a tele...my JV would have a whole
wardrobe....white , mint , tort, mint....

+1 on tort over oly!

I built a 12-string stratoparter, olympic white and tortoise PG, it matches my Burns 40th anniversary Marvin.

Great look

I have one of the great Protone Strats, from '97, and I love the look. In the 60s, Fender made a custom Strat that had these cosmetics (white body, matching white headstock, and tortoise shell), and it's classic. (The little Marshall is not mine - I'm currently playing the Protone through a Bassman 70 head and Fender reverb tank into a 1x15 cabinet, or through my 1x12 Musicman amp.new protone.jpg

For oly white, I say white/parchment/mint green, depending on the actual shade...
