If I'm not mistaken, it's a Roger Sadowsky. I have no idea why Paul removed the bridge and neck pups and the pickguard, however.

Huge PS fan! I think he is one of the all-time great lyricists, but even moreover, I think he is maybe the worlds most underrated guitarist. Not sure about that Strat though...

+ 1 on both counts.

And a former Queens neighbor of mine ... though I never met him or Artie.

I'm kinda wishy-washy on PS since the 1980s - but his stuff with Art Garfunkel and most
of his 1970s solo efforts are about as good as any music will ever be.

I have yet to hear a song so acutely convey the sense of isolation as captured in I Am A Rock
and America is one of my favorite songs ever - brings tears to my eyes, in fact.

is that a Duncan Strat-sized humbucker in there?

Sure looks like it. Paul Simon is one of those guys whose songs I love but I don't own any of his albums.

I think Scarborough Fair is perhaps the most beautiful song ever written.

Scarborough Fair is an old Scottish (Irish?) ballad, isn't it?

Yeah, but the way Simon arranged it, with the "dueling" vocal parts & the beautiful voice of Art Garfunkle, combined with Paul's guitar...gets me everytime.

Is it just me or does that look like a floyd rose (on the Strat)? I didn't realize he was so metal...

End of mystery: It turns out the electric (high-strung) guitar was built from parts by a guy name Scipio, on Staten Island. (link below to interview with Paul's guitar tech, Michael Kaye.

Surely it's to let the wood "breath".

I love Paul Simon's music, I grew up with it, but as far as what he's doing recently I have no clue. I have a few cds and dvds and never really realised he played electric. Thanks for posting all this great info.

Yeah, that looks like a Seymour in there.

No doubt, a Strat can sound better with less stuff on it:

Paul's music may be great, but he is one of the most unmotivated major name performers I have ever seen. Never expect too much, at least nowadays.

Yeah, I was actually suprised to see him smiling in that one pic above. Nowadays he doesn't seem to be into it. He just kinda goes through the motions, if you will. Great music though. There is NO better road trip album than Graceland. One of the greatest records of all time, IMO...
