Fotoflame Strat Value?
Anyone know what a nice (really nice) Fotoflame Strat is going for these days? I took a quick side trip into one of the pawnshops here, and they have a really sweet one hanging on the wall. It's really lively unplugged. Didn't have time to plug it in, though. It does have some sort of dual-rail bridge pickup and the back plate's gone, but otherwise it looks stock, and is still shiny. I think they've got it overpriced at around $800, but I may be out of touch.

IMO, you're correct in spotting an overpriced Foto Flame, but good looks and curb appeal are the nature of the beast.
Now you say it's an individually excellent one. So in my world, it would be desireable at ... $450. |

I have no idea of the actual value but that sounds high to me. I ain't paying that much for anything that is obviously 'faked' in any regard. Keep in mind that I'm a tightwad though. Over and out...

I don't consider them fake because they didn't hide what they were doing. I wish I had picked up a Fotoflame Tele years ago. IMO, the neck was great and they sounded pretty good, too.
This Strat has a pretty beefy neck. Wish I had the money to make an offer. |

My brother bought a new fotoflame Jazz Bass in about '95 for around $700 ...he also bought a new American Standard Jazz bass in '96 for around the same price at a local store .... I have to admit for years he's been playing the Japanese foto flame while the American Standard has virtually lived in the case in a closet .....
It's a great bass .... I would assume the guitar versions are also on par. Can't tell you it's value but thought I would add my .02 |

The VG Price Guide shows $500-600. I've got a Foto Flame Tele and they go for about that price on the Bay routinely. Great guitars. I don't care what people say about the "fake" finish. I think they look good and I KNOW they play good.
