But my personal fave famous strat isn't among them

And that's the strat that Jan Hendriks used to play in the Dutch reggae/Ska band "Doe maar" (which means "Go ahead")

.

It took me a while to find a picture of him playing that one, it was a fiesta red 1978 strat with an antiga pickguard

For me

I would put Jeff Beck's surf green strat in the mix...

Interesting article. Interesting because they seem to have deliberately steered away from some of the more famous Strats like Hendrix's White Woodstock Strat, Clapton's Blackie, and Stevie's #1.

It's funny about Hendrix's Strats. It seems whoever owns one always claims "this is the one he took back to the hotel to play and write songs on." I've heard that said about the 68 OlyWhite (attributed to Mitch Mitchell, who owned it at the time), his black one (attributed to Monika Danneman, who owned it at the time), and now this Tappy one. Not that those claims have any effect on the value or anything...

Of course, if you ask Dweezil Zappa, this might turn out to be the one he took back to his hotel to play and write songs on.

It also shows that the best way to increase a guitar's value is by playing it really, really, really well.

I just posted this for fun, thought it was interesting.

I really don't have a favorite famous guitar. I have favorite famous guitar players. The guitar is just a tool. I firmly believe most guitars would sound good in the hands of Hendrix, Clapton, etc.

Just my opinion.........

The Hendrix Strat that Dweezil owns isn't the one Jimi Burned and smashed at Monterey Pop, if you look closely at the footage you'll see that the body was a feista red one (Zappa's was a Sunburst) and that when Jimi was smashing it that the body spliced in two.

Frank Zappa got the guitar from Hendrix himself after he burned it during a gig in Miami and later had it overhauled so it could be played again.

Thanks for the info. I did not know that. I've seen pictures of the pieces somewhere. I guess I just assumed that was the one Dweezil Zappa had.

Dweezils strat is the one Jimi burned at Miami, not the one from Monterey. I remember FZ describing it in an old GP interview.
