60's classic strat tuners
anyone replace theirs yet? i'm a new owner of a 60s MIM classic (love it) yet am a little leery of those tuners. can I buy Kluson vintage strats and drop them right in, or is there a catch.
any info on this and other parts on the 60's MIM will be appreciated. yes, i'm replacing my p/u's, mainly because i do not like staggered pole pieces... |

I'm with Mark....
....in fact, those are my tuners of choice. Never had a second's trouble with tuning stability.
Quite frankly, in my experience, unless the tuners are REALLY cheap (like the "stamped" ones on the $99 type guitars), nearly all of them work fine. Tuning instability is often something else, such as a poorly filed nut. -Eric

50's (was 60') Strat tuners
Same question for the 50's Strat. Are they Pings as well? They are listed in the 2003 catalog as "Vintage Tuners," which seems generic. I have a Surf Green 50's Classic MIM 2000 and there's no identification on the tuners. They have functioned quite well for the two years that I've had this ax. I'd rather spend my money on Rory Block albums.

Yes the 50's Classic has ping tuners also.
The 50's and 60's Strats and Teles all use the same ping tuners. The 52ri Tele and 57/62ri Strats use Gotoh Vintage tuners that sell for $29 a set the pings are $20. I have never had any trouble with the ping tuners in fact the Robert Cray Strat I had held tune for 4.5 months without even touching the tuners. |
