Newbie: CP 50s Vs Classic Vibe 50s?
Heya, havent posted in this forum before but im after a new strat and figured theres not many better places to check!? Im torn between these two as the squier is fairly cheap, i (really) like the specs and with the money id save i could nip down the road and get myself a set of Bareknuckles (theyre made 25mins from me!) as a pickup upgrade. The thing is though, i love the profile of the CP 50s neck, that soft V is just heaven in comparison to the rather generic feeling compound C most squiers (and fenders for that matter) tend to have imo and it in itself is nearly enough to swing my vote.
Also, whichever one i get will likely become the basis for a few "minor" mods....... ie, completely wire-wooled to become a satin finish, new bridge, new electronic layout, possibly a p-rail in the bridge etc etc so by the time i spend the extra on the CP its looking less and less worthwhile! Just wondered if any of you had tried the squier one yet for yourselves and if you could let me know how the neck feels and what the weight was like? Cheers :) |

The Fender will more likely have the vintage dimensions regarding the bridge etc.
The Squier is so new, that I doubt many have them yet. I would like to hear about them too. :) I am afraind they might way too much for me (more than 7.5lbs). But I ain't buying to mod. But I'd like a cheap strat (Vibe or Bullet). http://www.tdpri.com/forum/telecaste...caster-16.html

Considering that you are wanting to change a lot... bridge, pickups, electronics and even muck around with the paint job, I would suggest the Vintage Vibe Squier and if you don't like the neck, get an aftermarket neck that will make you happy. In the end you will spend less, mods and all using the Squier as the "base" rather than starting with the CP.
Also, both come in sunburst with only the CP having one additional color option of Shoreline Gold so not much to consider there. I know it isn't the place but a lot of people have been posting reviews of the Vintage Vibe Strats in the Vintage Vibe Tele thread so you might want to go look over there as well.... towards the end of that thread. Good Luck |

I picked up a CP50's strat earlier this year and think it's the bee' knees. Other than mild setup stuff, I haven't changed a thing and don't plan on it anytime soon. I picked mine up on clearance, so the price was right!
I am very interested in picking up one of the vintage vibe 60's models to give me a 60's style strat as well. The pickups and neck shape hold me back though.... Although I haven't had first hand opportunity with either, so, who knows I may stick with what it comes with? My advice is if looking to upgrade everything, stick with the squier, maybe the bareknuckles pickups will suit your playing better than the 57/62's? But if you just wanna buy and play... go the CP route! Maybe prices on a CP or one of theother soft v necks might still be cheaper as well?

Cheers guys, most of the mods ive got "planned" are fairly long-term, the CP50s have nice pickups in it as stock and i doubt id feel the need to swap them out anytime soon - the bareknuckles idea was more for the squier tbh. Its more the satin finish id have trouble justifying on a new £360 guitar whereas on a £225 one its a bit more reasonable lol. I guess the real question is, do i want a C profile neck or a soft-V....... simple answer i suppose! Shouldnt be long before i upload some pics then ;)

I've got one of the Sqiers and love the pickups, might change the bridge or the block, will definitly change the pickguard to a thinner-non beveled version.
In my opinion, this is a very nicely made guitar! (you'll notice I didn't say for the money!) I also have the Tele and think this is a great series. Hopefully, they will continue to build on it!

I just picked up the Squier 50s yesterday (didn't even knew they existed, frankly). The two selling points were, the neck is really good, and it's absolutely the LIGHTEST weight Strat I've ever come across. I'm talking feather light. Cloud light...

FWIW, I wouldn't spend money on the bare knuckles with the pound strong against the dollar.
I'm an expat from Devon, so I understand the appeal of the BKs as local pickups. I'm very happy with two sets of BKs I have - Country Boys and Mother's Milk. But I'd be happier if the Mother's Milk were Lollars, and I'd only have spent half the money! I also would choose Van Zandts over the Country Boys, which will probably cost you much less too (assuming you order from a U.S. retailer, which is totally worth doing). |
