Ebony neck
I'm building my first partcaster. Looking aound I've seen some maple/ebony necks. I like rosewood neck, but never tried ebony on an electric guitar. Have anyone ever tried it? Do you think I should consider this kind of neck?
Thanks |

Ive got a PRS type guitar..a copy built in 89'.. that has an Ebony fingerboard..its just a little brighter than rosewood, not much tonal diff..but much slicker than RW or maple..feels faster to me..almost too slick..

I have used 3 guitars with an ebony fingerboard (each time on a maple neck). One was a Gibson L6S. Though I wanted to love this guitar I couldn't : Acoustically it was a bright guitar but there were simply no usable sounds ( I suspect the pickups didn't help)... I sold the damn log ! Second was a wonderful Tele copy made by Zion. Great hollow body with Barden pup but I could not stand the bright top end, too stiff. Something wrong for me. I sold it too (with regrets though). Last one I kept : it's a used Gibson Howard Roberts : in this case I find ebony complement well the design of the guitar. It helps for a more focus sound than a 335 (but I guess the maple body helps too compared to mahogany !)
One thing I appreciate with ebony fretboard is how well it cleans when you rub a little lemon oil on it (once a year is enough) |
