Don't have much experience with them.
The only ones I played were crappy, namely: The Animal, Collins, and Rockson.

As far as major compnay builds, I'd definately go with the Tokais....but thats just cause I happen to own one that is KILLER!!!! I've also played a few older Fernandes that were wonderful as well.
As far as the small, more botique builders.....I've never had the pleasure of playing them, ( although I did play a Nash tele last week that did not float my boat ) so I could not really say. I do know that if I were going to commision one, I'd give the biz to one of the talented brothers here that so freely share their trade secrets. |

Peavey Raptor 1. That was as close to stratocaster I got back in the beginning.

Early MIJ Tokai; I own two and S.R.V. played and endorsed them before Fender picked him up. Springy Sound & Goldstar models are exact replicas of early Fender guitars: outstanding! Bil

The old Tokais are as close as your gonna get to an old real Fender they are fantastic copies.
I dont really consider G&L's as Strat clones cause they are built so much different with the DF temelo and other features a Strat doesnt have I consider them a brand unique to themselves and not a clone.

Agreed that the old Tokais have it for being best "vintage correct", but I'll toss a vote in for the Hamer Daytonas. They're as fine a guitar as some of the boutiquey Strats like Andersons and so on, but at about 1/3 of the price.

Thanks much.
It was fun building it and great to be able to pick the components that I wanted like a BPSSC and an Alembic Stratoblaster. I *do* need some better pix. That one doesn't do justice to the silver/champagne sparkle or the Kingwood fretboard. |
