It's been a BLUE Stratocaster weekend!
Greetings again from London Ontario Canada! Well, what can I say! I have a stratocaster disease but all is good! On Friday I took possession of a very nice CIJ Sonic Blue '62 RI Strat.......all was good until I took a look at some local classifieds on Saturday. There was a guy wanting to trade a Daphne Blue American Strat (1997) for a American P-Bass, which I just happened to have! Since I rarely play the thing and my recent obsession with all things strat, I called the guy, we agreed to meet today and lo and behold, I am another strat richer and one bass less! This is also a very nice guitar; needs a set-up but the neck is great, everything stock (so I was told). It was interesting to see these two blue strats side-by-side.......there is a difference though subtle. I think the 57/62 pups in the CIJ RI sound nicer but the stock Fenders in the Am. Std. are pretty good. I haven't pulled the guard yet to see exactly what is inside but I think I have the blue strat thing covered! Any info on exactly what colour the 1997 Am. Std is would be appreciated. I was told Daphne Blue but I only see Custom Shop strats that offer that colour and this is not one of them. Anyhow, here are the pics. Notice the one with both guitars side-by-side. Subtle difference, more noticable in daylight. Also, the rosewood on the CIJ RI is a lot darker. I think I have to clean and condition the Am. Std board.....(thanks for the info Rob DiStefano!).

Those were called Daphne Blue, even though technically they weren't...
I worked briefly for a GC in Dallas at the time. We had a bunch of those, and a bunch in Vintage White (looked like banana pudding). They didn't sell at all, and we ended up blowing them out for like $399 or something silly like that. I tried to buy one and was told "they're for the customers". Of course, in '97, we sold new Am. Stds. $599 for solid colors, and $629 for sunburst... You could sell it used for about that nowadays most likely. Anyhow, good looking guitar, enjoy it! Jake
