True Bypassing a non-TB Buffered Pedal

I have a relatively modest pedal setup: Teese wah>>RGW Bad Bob booster>>Timmy>>Maxon chorus. (I have a RGW Dirty Dan that is my secret weapon at jams ) All are true bypass except the Maxon.

I have noticed that the Timmy loses some of its sparkle/edge with the Maxon; not noticable when it's on but when the Maxon is off. I've a/b with the Maxon in and out of the signal path and it is there, at least to my ears, and enough that I cannot ignore it.

Now, I see I have three choice, (1) get a chorus pedal that is true bypass, (2) place the chorus in a loop pedal, or (3) true bypass the Maxon. And of course there will be some who will say, "What are you using a chorus for anyway.. ditch it." I say to them , "The 80's have been over for nearly 2 decades... get over it."

My question is: can you true bypass a buffered pedal like the Maxon? If you can, what happens to the buffered components of the circuitry? Is this going to affect the sound of the chorus when it is being used?

Thanks.

Why not just get true-bypass loop pedal for the Maxon, like this rather than messing with the innards?

You have a fourth option...

Skip the chorus. That would definitely be my preference.

Good luck!

Pete Cornish says buffering is goood....
You could try the chorus before the boost and see if that helps, I can't see anyone but a pro turning it into true bypass. Or if it really bothers you then another chorus...

It is possible to mod a buffered pedal to make it true bypass. It's done all the time with Tubescreamers(search the net's DIY FX sites). If true bypass and chorus are that important to you then get one that fits the bill.I can't recommend a true bypassed chorus on account all my pedals are buffered(BOSS).

I have no answers. Chorus was my favorite effect for a while when I used pedals but it wore off quickly.

I just replied to ask what the heck this statement meant.

I've always tested pretty high on IQ tests and even enjoy Dennis Miller's comedy, but I have no clue how these 2 statements complement each other. [Where's a head-scratching smiley when you need one?]

Hey NewOld Stock. That statement was made tongue-in-cheek. I've read comments by many people on various forums stating they hate chorus because it was so overused in the 80's, not to put too fine a point on it.

As for the connection between the two statements, well, we who live in the Northern Colonies have a rather dry, not-so-obvious sense of humour, much like our British cousins.

I rather like Dennis Miller too.

And you're right: we need some different "smilies" on the TDPRI.
