Fulltone Fatboost and Twin Reverb???

I was talking to a guitar at a music store the other day about boost pedals. He said he uses a Fulltone Fatboost with his Twin. I was thinking how/why would you boost a Twin Reverb, most of the time they are too loud to begin with. He said he puts his Fatboost after an OD pedal and runs the Fatboost close to wide open. He uses the Fatboost alone for clean to semi clean and the OD for dirtier sounds. Then just barely cracks the volume on the amp, maybe 1 or 2. He claims it gives him the sound of the amp running real hot but at a controlled volume. I'm trying to find a Fatboost to borrow and try it for myself. I always thought a boost pedal was used the push an amp that was already turned up fairly. Just curious if anyone else uses a boost pedal in these manner? Thanks!!!

Question reworded???

I guess I should have asked if anyone is using a clean boost with a high powered amp about such as a Twin Reverb, how do you set the boost level and amp level?

I believe that you can use it both ways....

the imput control on the front can be used to make your signal 'hotter' and keep the4 volume the same or you can keep you signal the same and use to to kick up the front end of the amp....I use mine (when I actually use it) to do a little of both...nice pedal but pricey. later.

Right, you're not going to be able to hit the front end of the Twin hard enough with the Fat-boost to push it into natural sounding overdrive, like you can with a smaller amp; there's just way too much headroom there. Using a substantial amount of gain from the input gain on the FB w/ a Twin sounds harsh & grainy in my opinion, but it works great w/ lower gain to get a loud clean sound. If you're happy with the sound of your OD with the Twin, you have a couple of options - run the boost in front of the OD to goose it into more distortion (no significant volume boost). Or - run the boost after the OD to get a volume boosted version of your OD sound (plus the EQ frequencies that the FB adds). I've still yet to hear any amp that sounds its best with its volume set at 1 or 2. It doesn't necessarily have to be dimed & cranked, but the power tubes need to be working a little harder than that for great tone in my opinion.
