Someone i barely know loaned me a Timmy. I been playing with it for a few hours yesterday and today. I did NOT WANT TO LIKE THIS PEDAL.... I desperately wanted to say "ah, no big deal" ... but i gotta say ... Wow! Yikes! Holy smokes! It will be very hard to give this pedal back when the time comes. Really really sweet little low gainer. dang~ I would love to be able to keep this puppy. Awesome.

Anyone else here like the Timmy? (or Tim)

i was in the EXACT same mind set as you. I had thought about getting on the list for about a year actually and at the show saturday i saw a stack and figured no time like the present, plus i could always sell it on ebay.

then i played it at home and i was blown away. no way i'm getting rid of it, and i havn't even had a chance to crank it in a band sitution yet.

Me too. Got on the wait list about 4 months ago. Hopefully I will see it by next March.

After several years on the overdrive treadmill; buying, trying and selling in a rabid attempt to get a natural sounding OD it all came to a stop 2 years ago when a Timmy showed up at my door.

I wasn't overly impressed. Good, not great. There are a number of pedals that sound better with my AC30 and Bandmaster.

That might have been my friend's pedal, which is the one I tried. His was a pre-production unit. Hope you like it!

To say I like it would be an understatement... I tried everything... Hotcake, Fulldrive, Mosferato, Baby Blue, and on and on and on... The search came to grinding halt with the Timmy.

I have a Tim on order and I can't wait to get it. I really like the idea of the EQ that rolls off as opposed to bringing treble or bass up. Very good guy that hand builds these pedals and I would be proud to own anything he makes.

I bought two took damn almost 15 months; I kept one and gave my friend the other!!
Killer pedal makes tubes in tweeds sing.
Paul is a fantastic guy and cut me a break on the price for taking so long.
He now has help building them so it should be a faster turn around.
Fixen to give him a call and order a Tim, his wife answers the phone she has to be getting sick of that by now.

I'm going to ask the dumb question: I have heard of the Tim and Timmy pedals, people talk about how long it takes to get one, people will even say what a great guy Paul Cochrane is. But I have never seen anyone tell where to get one. Does Paul have a web site that Google can't find? Is a decoder ring needed? Maybe a secret handshake? If I get up enough curiosity to want to order one and wait, how do I do it?

actually, beleeb it or not, there is no web site.. if you google enough though you will end up on one of the 8 billion threads on the Gear Page that reveals the secret... you uhm... call the guy up on the telephone and say, "hi, i would like a timmy, please put me on the list!" boom ... then you forget you ever called him -- totally put it out of you mind and patiently wait. One day.... prolly long past the time when you guessed you would get the pedal and very nice guy will call you and you will have a vague memory that you signed up for this mysterious thing.... You paypal the the man his getus.. get the pedal plug it in and behold the greatness that is the timmy (or the tim) or you flip the puppy on eBay and make a small profit and use that to buy other pedals.... ad infinitum ..

He's got a day job, so he cranks out these puppies in his off hours.

Yes, i am on the list myself now. Having tried one, i gotta have it.

Imagine the Boss OD-3 but with less gain, less fizz, smoother, and even more bass on tap... That is what this thing is. Very very sweet low gainer. The Tim is bigger and has an effects loop in it. It does less gain that the Timmy or if you flip the switch, much more gain. Most folks think they want the Tim with all the bells and whistles, many end up with the Timmy as it is easier to dial in and takes up less space on the board.

My loaner will have to go back soon. I am gonna cry when i send it off.

If anyone's interested, you might try contacting Big Orange Guitars in Port Orange, FL, just north of Daytona. They're a Heritage dealer and have an association with Paul. The last time I was over there, Dennis said he was going to be getting some Tim's and Timmy's in. Don't know if they've got them or if they're still there, but it might save someone the wait. BTW, no association, just a customer. Here's the website:

Thank you one and all! I feel like I have been let in on a secret. Being a good Californian, I'll try for instant gratification first by checking with Big Orange Guitars to see if they still have any. If not, maybe I'll join that fraternity of those who ordered one back in when they were young and now, in old age, have achieved tone nirvana. In the mean time, I suppose I could practice more.....

The namesake is a Monty Python reference.

The circuit is boring for those that seek magical note bloom, it doesn't do that, it's an unforgiving circuit in this regard. For guys like myself that use boosters for general use and overdrives strictly for single note lead and slide passages, it's a great ped in that it mostly preserves base tone and works well for chord work, fills, and general stuff. It has respectable output and the taper of the controls is intuitive and predictable (this is a good thing).

Like all circuits, it has its preferences and quirks. Its high end needs to be adjusted, particularly with blackface Fenders, and also with VOX amps, although it can be made to sound great with each with a bit of intelligent tweaking. It's tailor-made for Fender brown amps, to my ear. Best tones are achieved with the circuit's gain at low to moderate, with output above unity, in my experience.

I do currently have a Timmy on my main working electric guitar board. Paul's a great guy even if he does hate jazz. There's a Heritage combo at a store at which I teach, and it does indeed sound like a million bucks. The guy knows tone and circuits.

Cool, enjoy! For what it's worth, five months since my last post here, Timmy is still on my board, both for full band and duo jobs. As low-medium gain OD's go, it's an extremely useful utility box. I'm currently running mine at 18V.

It's been my main OD now for over a year and a half. I had a whole slew of things I replaced with it: hotcake, CARB, Barber DD, Daddy-O, Zendrive. I was trying to decide which of those I was going to keep, and then Timmy came along, and I realized, I didn't need any of them. I really love it's EQ section. It's awesome with my tele-AC30 rig, but I'm just as happy playing an LP or Strat into it.

There are tons of pics over at the gear page. It is a very popular pedal (both are) and there are often Tim and Timmy's for sale there too. When i get mine this week maybe i will snap a photo. I have a Timmy here on loan. What a sweet little low gainer.

I waited over a year for my Timmy and about 18 months for my Zendrive......I still have (and always will have) the Timmy.

The ZD is long gone.

PaulC is a good friend and I bought the VERY first "Tim"

He gave it to me to check out and give him feedback ( like 8-9 yrs ago maybe ? ) - I wouldnt give it back because the guy is such a tweaker , I was afraid he'd change it - which he did !!

#1 was still VERY good - but it's a bit more transparent now. I think Tim and Timmy are both great but I prefer the sound of the Tim by a hair ( it's just slightly smoother in the top end )

that pedal is indispensable in the studio !!

Paul is a sorta genius guy - he's got a few cool things coming out soon I hope. I keep hearing about them and he says I'll be one of the first - we'll see. He's been tweaking them for YEARS

I've had my TIM for maybe 6 months. Fantastic pedal. Best medium OD I have tried. I was really hooked on it until the last amp I bought, Dr Z Carmen Ghia. This amp has such a sweet natural overdrive I stopped using an overdrive pedal completely. I still use the TIM of course, but just as a clean boost for solos. It's a pretty good clean boost pedal as well.

I've had/been using mine for a couple of years. It works better for me than Zendrive2.
