george harrison style fuzztone
Are there any fuzz boxes out there that have that real 60s type sound...like George Harrison on Lady Madonna? I'm definetely not after a thick, heavy Cream or Hendrix type of fuzztone.

If you search around the net for info on the book about the Beatles gear, it should say exactly what effects, along with guitar and amp, the Fab Four were using at any perticular time. With that info you should be able to come close with a modern interpurtation of that perticular effect.

Thanks for the info...it's much appreciated. I guess what I'm really asking, though, is whether or not there's any box currently being produced that will create that sound...just a very nice toney, mild kind of 60s fuzz. I guess that's more of a mid-60s sound? The Ventures used a similar sounding fuzz on some of their recordings.

As Fezz just mentioned any 'tonebender' type of thing and there's a ton of boutique builders who do the tonebender thing. What you need to be careful about though since you want a buzzier, 60's tone is to just find a regular or standard TB type pedal. There were/are also TB mkII's and 'supa' tonebenders which are the heavier, creamier circuits.
Also, since you mentioned Ventures, the Mosrite "fuzzrite" which I believe has been re-issued by someone, is really spitty, buzzy 60's fuzz tone. www.musictoyz.com Try these guys. Tons of pedals, lots of fuzz tones. Go to the 'pedal menu'. |

I "think" the A-man peppermint is supposed to be able to get a very 60's style fizzy buzz as well as the more corpulent fuzzes. Think Davie Allan and the Arrow's. A lot of the classic "bad" fuzz sounds can be achieved by some subtle tweaking of your guitars volume pot and/or using a a run down battery.
