How do I change the LED in a boss pedal?

Can I easily do this?

Thanks!
Jason

LED

Well if you are able to disassemble the pedal , take the circuit board(s) out and remove the old LED, then you should be able to solder a new one in.
I modded a DS 1 a while back and changed the stock red LED to a blue one.
Seems like the LED has to go in only one way to work if I recall, I think I got mine backwards and it didn't work, swapped it around and it was fine.
Also not all LEDs are the same physical size, something else to consider.

They are not all the same size, nor are they all rated for the same voltage; and, by definition, a diode only allows current to pass in one direction

Hey gang!

Maybe I am too simple... but why not take out the old one and then take it with you to the parts store and buy another one like it? The process of soldering it in and out should be pretty simple.

Just remember which way it came out the polarity is very important. Usually one side of the base is flat to indicate the cathode side (if I remember correctly). Also 1 lead on a new one is usually longer than the other to show polarity, but this does no good when the old one has been soldered and the leads are clipped off. Hopefully this helps.

Fortunately, the LED on BOSS pedals is usually on a tiny little daughterboard so you can take it out and work on it seperately from the rest. Take the whole thing to Radio Shack or somewhere like that, pick up the proper LED. Voltage won't be a big issue but size will... has to be the same size to fit in the recess.
When you get home you can take your time swapping them out. Polarity does matter, but you wont hurt it if you get it wrong. Just flip it around if that happens. You have a 50/50 chance.
If you aren't any good with a soldering iron call BOSS (I posted the details in your other thread about BOSS parts) they may be able to send you the assembled daughterboard.

Good luck
