Kryptonite Sound

Hi
My band wants to play the song Kryptonite by 3Doors Down, my problem is trying to nail the distorted sound they have, on the verge of feedback. I have a DS 1, but its not doing it on this song. Any suggestions to try or does anyone know what what 3 Doors Down uses for distortion?
Thanks for any help.
Ray

From an interview with their guitar player:

Quote:
Q: Do you use any special effects, with your Guitar?

A: I personally don't use any effects on my guitar at all. It's plugged right into my amp. I got a Paul Reed Smith and a single rectifier made to boogie pushed in a Marshall cabinet.
So a DS-1 isn't really going to do the trick for you by itself. It is a pedal more suited for mid-range crunch/distortion. You're going to want something more in the scooped-mid club. I would suggest trying out the Jacques Fuse Blower or Digitech X-Series Metal Master pedal or some other pedal that let's you mess with the tone shape more than the DS-1. You may also want to try getting your DS-1 modded by Robert Keeley - my modded pedal is dramatically better and more versatile than a stock DS-1.

Another option would be to pick up an EQ of some sort.

Hippietim,
Thanks for the pedal suggestions, that Fuse Blower sounds interesting, but is a bit price.
I have a Marshall Gov'nor 2 that has some EQ ability, but I haven't tried it out yet.
I was wondering where you found that interview with the 3 Doors Down guitar player, I would like to read it.
Thanks,
Ray
