Fans of the SD9

I have finally fixed my broken Ibanez SD9 (mid 1980's) it had a broken footswitch. Man do I miss this pedal Hoofa!! it has such a rich tone Great pedal for lush rock chords and blistering solos. It's not insane in the midrange department either...yummy indeed..

Give a little love for the sonic distortion! I've had mine for 25 years, and it's the one pedal that's always on my board. When the red light's on on the swamp green tone machine, you know something fun's going to come out!

For some reason mine's picked up a SERIOUS mid-hump of late (last 3 months or so). It's a little maddening, and I haven't been able to work it out. One of these days I'm going to have spend an afternoon going through everything and get it back to 100%

Good thread, FrankB.

PS - That's one nasty looking pedal! I love mine, too, but I try not to stomp on it while wearing cleats

Hey Dave,
I had the mid hump once also, turns out one of the caps was loose in the output stage. I just resoldered it and it was back to it's great ol self again.

You guys have any thoughts on how your sd's compare with the stock ts? I think my ts is the finest pedal in my collection.

Hi Guitar Louie,
Comparing the 2 would be not really a comparison but a choice so to speak. The sd9 can get the tube screamer tone by doing this
Roll the gain down all the way to 0 or 1 set the tone to your preference as well as the volume. Wallah, tube screamer.
The SD9 has so much more versatility in respect to a wider sound spectrum.
as you increase the gain, it gets fatter and smooth. As you increase the tone knob, it gains some mids but still satsy well out of tube screamer range in that respect. It has alot to offer and sounds about as good as any neweer pedals I have tried expcet for Bk butler tube driver, that is the ultimate pedal in my opinion. I use one of those as well.
I'm sort of a pedal head in regard to me having to have available color at the tap of a foot, I don't have the luxury of bending over on a stage to twist knobs, I have to have things ready to go. THough sometimes I just use my peavey classic 50 for certain gigs or requirements.
But in regard to pedals ie the ts and sd models, the sd provides all of the ts features and can change into a different pedal, suiting a different requirement.
THough one of the all time greatest pedals made is the MXR distortionII, it is so great, bell like, gritty, transparent and depending on how you set the filter and resonance knobs it can be super fat or rubbery with responsiveness to snapping and picking.. it's really cool as well. But these are pretty hard to find. I've had mine for so long, I don;t remember when I got it. BUt I know who owned it before I did.

FrankB. Your info is much appreciated. I am going to check out the Bk butler.
I wish I had an SD. It sounds like exactly what I'm looking for and it has that screamer vibe.

Frank, I liked your description. I usually say it's the TS9's big brother, the same DNA, can do something very similar, but then go out and rip things up at a whole 'nother level.

Louie, they're still around, and if you find one you won't be disappointed.
