Dirt Box Dilemma
Alright, so I was considering buying the Tonebone Trimode, since I can switch between rhythm and lead sounds and clean. But then I learned that the Boss DS-2 can do the same thing, correct me if I'm wrong.
So here's why each one would work for me: Trimode: Tube Driven (Although I'm not a tube snob) All sounds plus switching in one pedal DS-2: It's a Boss I have a DS-1, and I love it for rhythm (And I here the DS-2 can do it) Smaller than the Trimode I don't need the Trimode's effects loop And here are some cons I can think of: Trimode: More $$$ Bigger More delicate because of the tubes?? DS-2: Needs switcher (any suggestions?) ...all I can think of right now. Ah, yes, and here are some links DS-2 Trimode |

I had hoped to try the TriMode vs the FD2 mosfet edition because they both have 2 levels of overdrive. I don't have a pedalboard and didn't like the idea of running an AC cord for the TriMode so I got the FD2. I did let a young salesman in the local music store check out my FD2 and he thought it blew away the TriMode that they had in the store. Unfortunately I didn't have time to stick around that day and stopped back only to pick up my FD2 at the ens of the day.
Never played a DS1 or a DS2.

Try a Duncan SFX-03. I have a Tonebone Classic, DS-1, and a DS-1 with Keeley style mods, and have played a Tonebone Hot British. The SFX-03 may be something to check out.

Tanks for the tip, Doc. I checked out the SFX-30, along with the DS-2 and Trimode on Musician's Friend and listened to the audio samples. The SFX sounded good, but the Trimode sounds more like what I'm looking for. It's a bit more expensive than I'd like, and I'd still like to try one out first. Anyway, thanks Doc, and Bob.

This is what I've been lookin' at:
not as expensive as Tribone, AND designed by Custom Audio Electronics' Bob Bradshaw...the guitar gadget "guy" to many guitar "heroes". |
