How does the Marshall ED1 compare w/ Dyna Comp ?
I have a Boss CS3 and it doesn't suit me...its the second one I tried over the years, just ain't my thing. I loved the Tone Press, sold it for some needed cash...and now I'm looking at the Dyna Comp (had a few of those, liked it) or the Marshall "ED" ED1.

i have the ED-1 and like it a lot. But if you really want a great compressor get the Home Brew CPR. I just got one for xmas and it blows the marshall away. Totally quiet and more transparent than the marshall.
The Marshall does get that "popping" sound typical of some compressors, but it's not all that bad. The Home Brew gets none. I look forward to having the Home Brew #1 in my effect chain and then using the ED-1 on top of it for extra boost. Not sure if it will work, we'll see. |

Well, I went compressor shopping a couple of months ago; I already had a Line 6 Constrictor, that I hated (noisy, fizzy sound); I trie the Marshall Ed, DOD and Digitech compressors, and the MXR Dynacomp.
I went home with the Marshall Ed. The Dynacomp is nice, and of course it is a classic, but it basically has one sound, that can be varied from subtle to noticeable. You can get pretty much the same sound with the Marshall Ed, but it has plent more options to offer, due to the versatile, yet easy to use controls (particularly the 'Emphasis' control, that allows shifting the compression towards the treble or bass range of the spectrum is VERY useful); plus, it is very quiet, has a really warm, non-digital sound, and the construction seems to be very sturdy (at least, that pedal is really made from heavy metal, like you'd expect from a Marshall). BTW, the DOD and Digitech compressors were nice, too, actually more versatile than the MXR, but not as warm sounding and noiseless as the Marshall. |

I haven't recieved it yet, but just bought a DOD 280 compressor in an orange colored box. I bought a CS3 once, and didn't like the tone. Went without a comp for a year or so. If this one works out, but I don't care for the tone, I may search deeper. I just need 1 tone really, and simple operation. Maybe the Dynacomp. We'll see. If this one doesn't suit me, I'll list it here. It will look cool next to my grey box OD250 though!

I was a die hard Dyna Comp guy for years. I had a CS3 prior to the Dyna and the CS3 was noisiest pedal that I've ever owned. The 4 knobs and all the noise from the CS3 drove me to the Dyna. I tend to dislike Boss pedals; Roland is not a guitar company. The only Boss Pedal that I own is an RV-3 for reverb for my Martins for acoustic wedding jobs.
The Dyna was simple and sounded good with low noise. It's a classic. I bought an ED-1 because I've heard so many good reviews and I wound uo taking the Dyna off my pedal board and replaing it with the ED-1. The ED-1 provides a bit more control, the sound is very good and the pedal is very quiet. The emphasis control allows you to tweak the compressed tone without adding noise. I also have a Marshall Vibratrem that I use with my Pro Jr; Marshall pedals are bulletproof. If you are ever looking for a good cheapy compressor; try the DOD Milkbox ($39.95 everywhere). I have a Milkbox that I use with my Pro Jr for practice. The Milkbox and the Bad Monkey are the two biggest values out there..fantastic cheapy's. John
