New Delay Pedal Owner...Questions...

Hi folks

wondering if anybody could help me with my new Boss DD-3 pedal. Just bought it and I like the echo effects that I get from it, but I'm not entirely sure on how to maximize its capabilities for my kind of music. I play mostly country music, but a small variety of other things as well.

For anybody that owns a DD-3, and also plays country, what did you find to be some of the best settings for attaining an echo sound with not too much delayed feedback? I know analog delay is favored over digital for country because of its warmer sound, but i wasn't looking to spend large amounts of money just yet. I've heard good things about the Danelectro Danecho, but wasn't able to locate one without having to order one. I just wanted to become acquainted with delay effects as i've heard they can do good things for your sound.

Also just wondering what kind of sound i can produce from it by changing the settings.

Really appreciate any help,
Cheers,
Joel

For a nice country tone, I'd do a basic slapback echo. Try delay time at about 140ms, and set the feedback knob so you get only one nice solid delay with maybe the slightest hint of a second one (to taste) and set the delay level at about 30% (can vary quite a bit according to taste).

That should get the ball rolling, and I'd start with your pedal last in the chain before the amp. That way it affects and adds echo to everything before it.

Then knock 'em dead!

I set mine as follows:

I mute the strings with my left hand and strum once. The single strum plus the slapback I like should sound like "dit dit dit". As far as speed...I don't know how many miliseconds, but about as fast as you can say "dit dit dit".

Fool around with the knobs so you don't get too many repeats. I like the effect turned about half the way up. YMMV. The DD-3 is an affordable way to get that Sun Records slapback.
