Delay Pedal Question...

Just purchased a Boss DD-3, just to experiment with some tones and stuff. Found that i really like it, it really adds some body to the sound when I'm strumming chords, and the echo is neat when you're pickin'.

But I was wondering (cuz I know its important) which order of pedals I should run for optimal sound quality. I currently own five pedals and are currently in this order (guitar to amp):

Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner
Boss CS-3 Compression Sustainer
Digitech Bad Monkey
Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble
Boss DD-3 Delay Pedal

Also just purchased the Tuner, very handy indeed. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Joel

Seems like a positive order. I use a similar order ( different brands) and it works for me. The important thing is how it sounds to you when you run through your chain.

YMMV

That's the way I would do it. You might mess around with it and see how your ear likes it.

I think the order you have listed works well.

The order you use will work well, you could use the compression pedal before the Bad Monkey to 'goose' that one for a little more dirt and sustain; or you could switch the compression and Bad Monkey around, for more touch sensibility (with regards to picking dynamics and their influence on the overdrive), and still some added sustain.

Yours is pretty much the "standard" order of effects, but messing around with it can be loads of fun, giving you lots of cool sounds (assuming you're one of those guys, I know I am). For instance, take your overdrive and delay. The way you have them set up, the signal first hits the overdrive and gets distorted, then the delay reapeats what you played. But if you switch their order, your signal first hits the delay, which repeatas what you play, then all of that gets distorted. I'm not saying this will yeild anything usable, just using it as an example of how a minor change in your setup can really gives things a twist.

If you have a two channel amp (or two amps) and the delay has stereo out, it's kind of fun to run out of the delay into the other pedals and set the effects on one side or the other ...

I do this regularly. My justification is that I like my Marshall '800 dirty, and if I run a delay in front of it, then it comes out exactly like you've described. It actually sounds pretty good the way I've got it set up. I dial the level down a bit, and the repeat(s) come out a hair cleaner than the main signal, which adds a little organic echo-space, at least to my ears.

I read that East Bay Ray of the Dead Kennedys does the same thing for that same reason.

Heck yeah, and he's got one crazy cool guitar tone too.

Too bad about that whole DK tour thing...

I have my tuner at the end, it doubles as a kill-switch.
