If you could only keep one pedal, which would it be?

I think this should be a pretty simple question to answer. I have about a dozen pedals and they all do some pretty cool things, but the one pedal that I wouldn't want to live without is.... drum roll, please!

It's a Boss product....

It's a single function pedal...

It's the one, the only....

TU2!!!

That's right, if I could only choose one pedal it would be my tuner. The thought of playing out of tune is painful. Oh, yeah. It also double as a power supply for other pedals.

Peace

I'd keep my MXR DistortionII. It's the most versatile pedal I own. Versatility in the form of huge and nice and quacky with some break up...it's the best pedal I own.

If I had an amp with an effects loop, my wah (I prefer for the signal to distort before it hits the wah). Until then, my distortion.

Hmmm....

As long as I have a telecaster and an amp that reacts to my playing (5E3 or something similar in sound)...

Wah, no question about it. Just cause I can do all kinds of things. From echoes, tone control, filtering goodness, and dont forget SLAMMING the front end of a cranked amp.

I would've said tuner, but if I only had a pedal, guitar, and amp. I would definitely be tuning by ear.

I NEED an overdrive of some kind. I like to play clean but I like a little hair on it. Right now my FD2 mosfet is great to have and a little cheating because it serves as 2 drives in one for me.

If I had a wah... my wah.

as of now, my fuzz+octave because the only other pedal i have is a seriously disfunctional home-made distortion.

A good distortion pedal because my amps tend to be clean machines and a Space Echo isn't a pedal so I could still keep it.

Tech 21 comptortion. It is a decent overdrive, distortion, boost, and does a passable job of evening out the levels as a compressor. It has a ton of gain. It is not the sweetest sounding pedal but it covers a lot of sonic territory and certainly isn't the worst sounding pedal I've ever heard. The biggest drawback is that extreme settings all sound pretty rugged and are prone to an irritating gating, pumping limiter sound at the end of notes. The other problem is that the knobs have to be diddled to switch jobs. ie There are no settings that allow the pedal to function as a boost and a distortion or an overdrive and a compressor without some control tweaking.

1--A good tuner (TU-2 or StroboStomp)
2--Bad Bob

For me and set appropriately, the Bad Bob seems to make my guitars come alive without coloring the tone...Kind of like the two extra shots of espresso that go into my morning coffee. It's the signature in my sound. YMMV.

I would buy a nice Korg rack mount tuner and keep my Wah. I have a Vox but would probably use a Morley Wah/Volume for gigging. Morleys are just too dependable. Crybaby's are prone to rediculous problems at the worst possible time. You don't know how many times I've seen guitarists digging around on the floor looking for that stupid felt switch pad that came unglued I don't like the duct tape repair method.

Well- it'd have to be my Boss BD2 Keeley modded, as I only use two pedals and I can live withou the "wah". (I use an intellitouch tuner-otherwise it would be a hard decision; "hmmm-do I stay in tune or have great overdrive... )

Wah is pretty much essential to me. Other than that, I'd take some sort of valve preamp/ tube overdrive pedal, which i dont currently own (yet!).

Probably the Zendrive, closely followed by the RC Booster.

For guitar the Route 66,

For bass it's the MoogerFooger MF-101

I would prefer not to lose the FL-01 Maxon Flanger though, nor the MXR Bass Octave or the Punch Factory or the Radial Bass Bone though ...

If the amp is my Marshall, then my Ibanez AD-9 analog delay.

If I have to settle for my practice JC-50 (with Celestion) then I'll take either my DS-1 or my BD-2. I may have to flip a coin, though I'm leaning toward the BD-2.

BOSS TU-2.

Although, I couldn't let my Crybaby Wah go. It was a gift from a good friend of mine in my first band... it looks brand new after 10 years... all of that beer, whiskey, puke, and dust. What a trooper.

Plus, I never go out of tune or even break strings. No tremolos on my guitars (except a Bigsby), so I might not need my TU-2...

I can't decide.

Weber Mini-Mass if that counts as a pedal

If not then:

1) Boss DM-2 analog delay

or

2) Analogman sunface fuzz

depending on what amps I can use them with.

Hmmm... I don't use individual pedals -- I have a VOX AD60VT with the big pedalboard (built-in effect galore). The one effect I can't live without is:

Flanger

I'm still contemplating about my trading my Crybaby and/or my Boss DS1. But my Digidelay and my Dynacomp are staying on. If push comes to shove, I guess I'd hold on to my Digidelay!

It is what I'm using most of the time : a Maxon OD-9

1- Really fine overdrive sounds

2- True Bypass don't mess with my clean sound

I have a mighty fine Sola Sound Tone Bender MKII reissue that I had D.A.M. over in England rebuild it to the original specs with the Mullard OC81D transistors and mustard caps. Its just like the one Jimmy Page used. I don't think I would ever sell it. Kyle
