HiFi Reverb Unit?
I've been shopping around for an affordable analog reverb unit for my 'verb-less amps and I noticed some of these old HiFi home stereo reverberation amps for home stereos.
Some of them are pretty cool looking with flashing lights and big knobs, as well as being dirt cheap. Could one of these be tweaked a bit to be used as a reverb unit for guitar? I think it would make a good conversation peice, but if it won't give me decent results, then I won't bother. What does everybody here think? |

They could be used for guitar, but they might need some tweaking, and even so, be prepared for some serious lo-fi tones from your hi-fi reverb.
I have a Panasonic 202, I believe. It's a standalone spring reverb unit with a front panel that lights up and as you turn the reverb level/decay up, the light gets covered by a blue lens. Looks very cool. Sounds kind of blah..... I'm all for lo-fi and interesting sounds, but I have many other spring reverb units that sound MUCH better. You might run into level issues, where you need a preamp to get a hot level to the reverb unit too. For $20 or less, they're worth playing with. Roger |
