New Vox Micro Amp- Effects model unit $$ ????

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...base_pid=482624

This thing is $139.

I have effects pedals that cost twice this amount. I often wonder how much mark-up goes onto really trendy or really sought after pedals. This thing is like a POD with a speaker, a mic input and an attenuator for $139.

I have the AD30VT as my tiny practice amp, I'm familiar with this layout and the components. Odd thing, it sounds pretty darned good.

It's getting harder for me to pay $200 for a Delay or Keely Compressor. It just makes me think & wonder.

Hmmmmmm?

I've only read a few reviews of people who have bought a DA5 already, but they are all positive... and a few of the people are getting rid of their Microcubes. I'm definitely going to pick one up- to take on vacations with me. The built-in attenuator feature is amazing for a practice amp.

Uh... Built-in attenuation in a digital amp? I don't get it. Is there a tube in there somewhere? A tube fed by batteries?

I've had a DA5 since they became available about a month ago (actually, it's my 11-year old son's!). It's seriously awesome. Absolutely beautiful for jazz, gives me a great Fender spank with my Tele, and the most credible OD and distortion this side of my ZenDrive/Mosferatu 4-knob running together!

I love it. I just don't know HOW THEY DO IT! It really makes me wonder why I have to have 2K in killer effects. The $139 (I paid $114, GC connections!!) pricetag gives me A LOT of boutique-grade fx, in a travel-sized package. Nice.

Plus, you always look cool play'in through a Vox.
Buy one. Or two.

They don't call it an attenuator
"A built-in output power switch (5W, 1.5W, 0.5W) helps extend battery life and lets you play at lower volume without losing any tone or feel. "

Ahh, well, that explains it. I just saw "attenuator" above, and then saw the power switch description too briefly on the MF page, which actually does say ".5, 1.5, or 5 watt selectable output lets you overdrive the amp without getting loud."

Ahh well, they got to sell 'em somehow. I'll probably check one out myself. I wasn't too impressed with the MicroCube I bought and returned...

oh man, i love my microcube. the only complaint i have is that the speaker doesn't handle low frequencies well if you push it. i have been tempted to take it apart and see if i could get a bigger, or better speaker in that tiny package.

Some of that's actually built-in to the amp models. The Fender setting, for example, has that flubby, farty bass response. It's not nearly as bad in most of the other modes.

What amazes me about the Microcube is how long the batteries last. A Boss delay alone will burn thru' an alkaline battery in a couple of hours, but I can get over 20 hours playing time out of the cube, with modulation AND delay going the whole time.
