Has this product actually been released?
There was quite a buzz among the stompbox community 5-6 months ago about the Fulltone "DC Doubler", but it never materialized. But Fuller announced the Distortion Pro, which took, what, two years to actually become available, so who knows? The speculation on the unit not being made available is that there would be legal implications, due to people frying stompboxes that couldn't handle the extra voltage, even though Mike supplied the warning at the link you provided... That's just what I've read, can't verify any of it... Sure would be cool not to have to use a wall wart or a jumper cable though.
I'm assuming you've powered something at 18V? I have, with a Fulldrive and a Menatone Top Boost In A Can. Mike's description as to more headroom and less compression is accurate, which is a nice mate for lower wattage amps or those that compress well on their own, not so nice with a stiff, unforgiving amp like a Twin... (One of the keys to the Klon's tone is that it runs internally at 18V.) The best luck I've had with a wall wart for this application is the Dunlop 18V, the one that's used with the reissue Uni-Vibe. Dan Electro 18V wall wart is extremely noisy.

MCM Electronics part #28-2780 - $4.59. 800-543-4330
I've used this on ADA pedals and an old EH Electric Mistris/Filter/Flanger. It was fine on the ADAs, but the EH hummed badly. Added a 50uFx50v cap on the adapter jack and it is quiet as a mouse. |
