Power conditioners

Anybody know of any power conditioners ( inexpensive ) that would work for a pedal board to help with the noise caused from old wiring and lighting in a lot of the old bars and dives that I seem to frequent 8)

power conditioner

You can watch eBay and try to get a Tripp Lite LC unit, for a guitar amp and effects you can get by with a smaller rated unit like a LC1200,
I have one of the big ones LC2400, it's great, not only conditions and filters the current but also actually regulates it to maintain a constant current.
A LOT of places have low or high voltage, which can cause distortion, buzzing and other noise.
Here is a link to some that are listed on eBay now

Will a power conditioner really help get rid of noise from external sources, like flourescent lights or neon signs? I thought they were just good for filtering noisy/spikey power mains.

Playing near neon signs has been a big problem for me. Forget the pedalboard. I can't get rid of that hum when I'm plugged directly into my amp with no effects. Some suggestions I've heard have been to switch from single-coils to humbuckers and use really good shielding in the guitar. But, I haven't tried those out myself. . . yet.

Ringo,

I`ve seen that trip lite has a Isolation transformer too. Would this be better for the noise (flouresent lites .etc) , or work just the same as a Line conditioner... just missed on a bid for a LC 1800, went for 15 bucks , I wasn`t home
to snipe it LOL !

re filtering out noise

I'd have try it in exactly that scenario to tell you whether a Tripplite ( or other line conditioner) would eliminate all the noise.
But if not all , it would have to help considerably.
Check out the Tripplite website for more detailed info.

All I know is we used to play a regular gig at a venue , outside on the deck, ALL the outlets there were on one breaker, we had a lot of noise, distortion, buzzing etc from the PA , when we got a Tripplite and started using it ( the voltage was low by the way ) the problems went away.

From posts that I've read , low and high power is a problem all around the country, power surges, fluctuations inf the current, and all this can and will affect tube amps, effects - especially digital effects and the PA.

We don't play out without a line conditioner.

There are others out there, Furman makes some that are pretty expensive, I've found the Tripplites to be good enough for my needs, and usually fairly easy to pick up used ( just make sure that the unit is guaranteed to be in working cond. You can use a test meter and a Variac to see if the unit compensates for low/high voltage)

Well a buddy gave me a small tripp lite surge protecter and I brought it home and plugged my amp in . I`ve always had noisey tube amps here and figured, ....old house ,... bad wiring... makes noise ........ well the tripp lite has a red lite that says fault and it stays on, the( line ok lite )does not come on... this is not a line conditioner ,just a surge protecter... so I`m guessin a Line conditioner whould fix this problem or at least help with the noise ?
