Got a Direct Drive today..nice pedal
Purchased it used (one of Dave's earliest ones...hand written name and knob labels) for cheap !
It's a very nice sounding OD...not overly heavy with my Tele and Vox (haven't tried it yet with my Epi 335, but that should be a sweet tone). The push pull tone knob with added harmonics boosting is nice. I was just fooling around with the pedal into my POD and those Fender models sound great with this thing. Well, it'll stay on my board for awhile now..perhaps I'll try a Hotcake down the road :D , but I'll hold onto this DD now (after Jeckyll and Hyde, Boss DS1, Sparkle Drive, TS5, TS7, Vox ValveTone (ok, I should have kept it) and DOD BiFet Boost have all failed to stick around). Later, back to the pedal. JK

I tried one out in a store and really liked it. I ended up getting one in a trade and it didn't sound the same. I contacted Dave Barber and he said, "send it to me and I'll make it right." He thought it might have been modded, and is inspecting it right now. I can't wait to get it back. If it sounds as good as the one I tried, it'll be a keeper for a long time. Got to love a company that will take back one of their used pedals and make sure it's up to spec!

Direct Drive
Hey John, I'm loving mine too. I've had mine for 3 weeks or so and I'm digging the tones I'm getting with it. I've used it with my teles, ( stock 71 and home brew chambered tele with Seth Lover bucker and Lil 59'r ) strat, 335 and a 60's Kent semi-hollow. It sounds great with all of em. I was afraid it would replace my Vox Valve Tone, but the two compliment each other very well. The Valve Tone is a killer overdrive also. I'm also using a stock blues driver. These three are different enough and complimentry enough to co-exist on my pedalboard. I just tried an old MXR Command series overdrive and was very pleasently surprized at it's tone! I may also use that in conjunction with the others Sunday! Jeez, 4 overdrives not including the second channel on my amp.....a bit of overkill maybe??? NAH! Anyway, back to the DD. I'm very happy I took a chance on this pedal without hearing it. I like the sound with the gain between 1:00 & 3:00 and the tone pot pulled. I just turn my body towords the amp and that glorious, controlable feedback starts to sweetly ooze from my fingertips. Are you going to do any of the mods to your DD? If I do any, it will be the bass mod. But since I really like the pedal as is, I may just leave it alone. Now I'm anxious to try Barbers other pedals.

Just so many good pedals...
I like the Barber stuff I've tried... I have the original Tone pump and it is a killer pedal, I split time with that and my modded Boss BD-2.
I really want to try the Direct drive and see how different it is from the tone pump... and I REALLY, REALLY wanna try the the Tone Press. |
