well with any jhs pedal you're paying for someone to put together a clone of another better known pedal. throw on some paint, simple line art, and off the shelf knobs and its "boutique." this time its a dan armstrong orange squeezer. $215 seems pretty steep for an orange squeezer clone.

His stuff is insanely overpriced. You're, as was mentioned, paying a premium by copied designs. I could see paying the price for original designs but not something with no R&D and based on the stolen work of others.
