EHX Freeze...any experience?
This pedal looks like a lot of fun for home noodling. I don't like loopers due to the complexity and my lack of patience for such things, lol. Has anyone tried this pedal?

Yep. This is a one trick pony, but a really cool trick. It's not really a looper though, it's more like a piano sustain pedal for guitar.
If you do ambient or drone, or well, any kind of psychedelia, it's great. I found that I didn't really use mine too much, so I gave it to a buddy who's in a shoegazer band, and he loves it. Check out Guitarcenter.com on the Used Gear section. I saw one there a week or so ago for like $70 (and I think you should get a real looper. They are amazing. And instructional, as far as composition, soloing, etc. goes) |

Thanks!
Where did you place this in your chain?

I think I usually placed it at or near the end (So it could soak up the good stuff from the other pedals)
I think my friend has his at the end too. Well, before the looper! Here's a cool demo of it--- |

I own one.
It sits last in my pedal chain. I use it mainly in latch mode for spacey stuff while playing Reggae/Dub music. Not alot to it but what it does it does well. I'm probably going to sell it for EHX Super Ego

Saw a great video of Bill Frisell noodling around with one and rushed out to get one -- funny, it doesn't sound the same when I use it!
My feeling is to put it first or near the beginning of my pedal chain so that the sustained signal is wholly affected, making the sound from the Freeze less digital.

I tried it today at GC...didn't go for it...$121 is too much. If it was 50 bucks maybe. It sounds really artificial. I'm better off waiting to get a looper.

I've always been curious if the freeze would be good for playing "With Or Without You" by U2

I have looked at that Freeze pedal also. What I don't like aside from the high cost, is the "stomp box" footswitch. Too clunky. Better would be an input for a keyboard sustain pedal.
I used to have such a device, bought in the late 80's, a Korg digi reverb rack unit, sold off to pay bills long ago. It had a jack where you could plug in a sustain pedal. While you held that pedal down, whichever reverb sound you were using switched from wherever you had it set to its maximum ring time. As I also play piano, I found this to be a fun & easy to use gimmick for solo guitar playing. I don't believe that this Freeze is as good as that old Korg for the purpose I described. If someone knows of a current reverb that will do that (allow a sustain pedal to be used), I would like to know about it. |

Yeah, I had a Hardwire DL-2 for a while that had a loop feature...it was a little clunky but worked. I'm thinking of a used RC-2. I looked at the comparison reviews and demos with the RC-3 and feel that RC-2 is better suited to me.

Schenkadere, if you are worried about possible complexity in regards to Loopers, I highly recommend you look for a used Boss RC20. The one with the dual footswitch.
Ecadad, you want to play With or Without You, get an E-bow. Not only is it cheaper than the Freeze, it's awesomer than the Freeze too |

Funny, I did the same thing -- with the same result. I haven't given up on the pedal yet, but Bill F. sure has a knack for coaxing the most beautifully musical sounds out of gear!! |
