Visual Sound Rt. 66 experiences anyone???

I am contemplating changing out some pedals on my pedalboard and one of the pedals I was looking at to purchase is the Visual Sound Rt. 66 overdrive/compressor pedal.

Any comments, opinions etc.????

I've had one for 6 months or so. The OD side is not my cup of tea. It sounds like most every other tube screamer I've tried. To middy, sterile. IMO, doesn't do the amp-on-the-verge-of-breakup sound well at all. I found the compressor side quite nice, though. One of my favorite compressors.

It's well built, and a good value (2 pedals in one) if you like that OD sound. Mine's going to the TDPRI garage sale or Ebay.

I love mine and it's the only pedal I used, except for reverb with the amps that don't have it. The compression is my favorite feature and all my friends are addicted to it! I like the OD, especilly with a Tele.

Love the Compressor and the OD, great pedal with Tele/DRRI setup. I can't really "hear" that the Comp is on somuch as I can "feel" when it's off...(that totaly sounded good in my head!!! lol). It's like the pedal was made for Telecasters.

Great pedal, my uncle brought his round to my place today along with his Blues Junior (nice amps btw) and we were testing it out with a variety of different guitars and amps. Sounded great, no mid hump as some people complain of - just great rootsy, fat OD.

I had one (the newer model with 2 switches) and found the TS side boring and sterile...too over processed sounding, heck I like the cheap TS7 better. The bass boost is great, if you want to blend in with the bass guitar zone. The compressor, noisy and harsh, couldn't dial it in at all. I'd use a cheap TS7 and Dyna Comp RI for better results, imho.

I sold the Rt 66 and now have Barber's Tone Press, LTD and DD...totally different tonal zone.

I bought one to replace two twenty plus year old pedals, a Series 2000 Dynacomp and a Proco Rat. I more or less bought on the reccommendation from Johnny Hiland's website. I like the compression side ok--you have to turn the level way up to get Dyna squash. The gain is very sensitive, it'll be hard to "toe up" the gain like I could with a dyna.
I'm still trying to figure out the OD. It looks like I will still need a Rat. I have an old (new when I bought it) Roland JC-120 and the Rat worked (it gave out after long faithful service) great with this amp. The Route 66 OD only sounds like my 61 Champ on 7 .
My main gripe is the loud hiss when both OD and compresssion are used at the same time. I have trouble with this because the effects are quiet used alone. The factory rep said this was normal and suggested the ISP noise gate Johnny uses.
It was a plus to get such fast replies from a rep, however. And the thing looks like it is well made, albeit in China.

Bottom line is I probably would not be happy if I was still playing for a living. But it's ok for present purpose of "rust inhibitor"

My Rt. 66 hasn't seen much use since I got a Fulldrive 2. The comp side is a bit too noisy for my tastes and a bit hard or perhaps harsh sounding at times. The OD side is a bit too compressed, and the switches have become a bit noisy and flaky after relatively little use. The Rt. 66 works better than the FD2 with my old non-reverb SF Princeton, but the FD2 sounds far better with all of my other amps.
