Lovepedal EnglishWOMAN Is Fantastic!

I've had this thing for a few months now, so here's my post-honeymoon report. The EnglishWOMAN is a *fantastic* pedal, and here's why:

For anyone thinking that you can achieve that sexy, sultry 'woman tone' simply by turning down your tone knob, here's what you're missing: The great thing about the Lovepedal Englishwoman is that, as you back your guitar's volume knob down for rhythm parts, you're tone not only cleans up *very* well, but it becomes *brighter*, too -- to the point where it's not some undefined, woofy mess which destroys chord clarity.

Such is not the case when you achieve your 'woman tone' the old fashioned way, simply by turning down your tone knob. When doing that, if you then turn down your guitar's volume knob for rhythm work, you are left with an overly wooly mess of chord tones with almost no distinguishable harmonic clarity or string separation.

IMHO, if you want a great 'woman tone' which leaves you with plenty of backed-off rhythm tones , on *both* pickups, the Lovepedal Englishwoman is the only way to go. I can use mine nearly 100% of the time for a great blatty, splatty, deep, sexy kind of tone. So I'm now looking for a backup, and if I can't find another one to buy, then I at least want to build a few. Honestly, it's nearly magical the way it transforms from fat leads to useably trim rhythm chord tones. I've never before played anything like it!

If anyone can find any schematics/circuit for this pedal I'd be much obliged! :-D

Sounds great, do they no longer sell them?

They are now unavailable through the website. But Lovepedal stuff comes and goes in regular rotation, so I suppose I could always wait patiently.

Not sure about the female variety, but the EnglishMAN schematic is available on the web. Pretty similar to an LPB-1 + some diodes.

Based on lovepedals past lineups I'd expect these two to be fairly similar with perhaps a few component tweaks.

I thought the EnglishMAN was a take-off on a Vox amp. If so, it's a different sort of thing. The EnglishWOMAN is about capturing that Clapton/Cream 'woman tone'. How accurately it does that is open to debate, I suppose. But what it actually does, it does very well!

You can also get that effect by increasing the value of your guitar's treble bleed cap (small capacitor across the guitar's volume control). It would give you the brighter clean-up with any pedal, or could be adjusted to keep your tone "the same" as you lower the volume.
