Barber LTD. Perfection for me.

I wanted a OD pedal that would just give a little hair to the P90 Les Paul / Pro Reverb combo. The amp is great and once past 5 (Loud) breaks up really well on it's own. I needed something to get a little breakup at a lower volume without messing around with attenuators.

The LTD is a "low-gain" box that suites my needs perfectly. Great for blues, R&B and classic rock. Chords and leads come through perfectly.

YMMV.

LTD

I can see how this could be a good bluse pedal for a Les Paul with P90's but for a Tele with single coils it just didn't work for me.
Keeley's Modded Boss BD-2 is great with a Tele for a little Twangy Country OD tone.
Just an opinion though!

I've had an LTD for a long time. Compared to other ODs like the Red Snapper it paled. Very nasal for a 'mild' or 'clean' OD, though not as midrangey as great 808 style pedals like the Blues Devil or TTS.

Just got another LTD and it's great. Blows the first away. It's not a matter of the internal trimpots, it just sounds much, MUCH better than the other LTD.

Used with Teles into Brown and Black Fenders. Usually hitting it with a Keeley Comp. Btw, having several vintage P-90 guitars, I'd be much more likely to mate the LTD with a Tele.

Yeah, LTD's are great all by themselves ... and, yes, you *might* hafta dial in the internal trimpots to get the tone and OD to suit yer tastes.

Anyhoo, just got a Clark-Barber "Gainster" - a bit different than the LTD - perhaps, PERHAPS, a bit more "transparent"? Gotta spend more time with this li'l feller ...

LTD

Picked up an LTD based on all the good comments around here. It definitely suits me as I've never been into big, full-on distortion.

My little nit-picks with it have to do with the internal trim pots....why not make them external? (cost, space, etc. I know).

First, initial setup of the trim pots was a bit of a hassle because the sound I hear and like in my family room is not necessarily what I hear and like with a band. But it's none to easy to mess with the trim pots in the middle of a gig whereas I can move the outside pots in the middle of a song.

Second, I'd love to be able to roll back the presence for playing slide or smokier blues but keep it up for most other things.

Third, trim pot settings I like with my 5E3 clone are different from my Super Reverb. Seems a hassle to unscrew the bottom, change the trim pot positions, and screw the bottom back on just so I can bring a different amp out.

Again, love the sound of the pedal. Just wish I could more easily tweak everything that is tweakable.

Re: Rob, the gainster

How does the Gainster compare to the LTD?

Is it halfway between the LTD and DD gain wise?

Don't Wanna Hi-Jack

so don't be afraid to tell me "Go start yer own thread", but has anyone here (reading this) compared the LTD to a Keeley Bluesdriver? I have a Keeley Bluesdriver and like it a lot but am intrigued by the comments on the LTD- I am not a big, full-on distortion fan. Any comments/comparisons appreciated. Would it be beneficial to have one of each or are they quite similar?

Thanks!

Brian
