Opinions - Best Stomper Tuner
Guys, been looking through the catalogs and see a number of new stomp tuners which tune all 6 strings at once. Versus the older one at a time type.
If you were going to buy a new stomp tuner today, what would it be? I'm finding the ones that clip onto the headstock just are not accurate enough, my guitar sounds slightly out of tune on the B or G strings when finished with those. Thanks!!!! |

I bought a used boss TU-2 middle of last week, havent tried it yet but they are pretty popular. Also rhe polytune from TC Electronics seem to be top notch.

Turbo Research ST-200 Stomp Box Strobe Tuner
Strobe Tuner True bypass Muted output Chromatic and guitar/bass modes Fully programmable for alternate tunings and temperaments Extreme accuracy: ±.02 cents guaranteed Rugged die-cast aluminum case Made in USA I yanked it off their website, but its all you need to know. This is the greatest and most accurate tuner I have ever used. In fact, its the only tuner I have ever been excited about.

Turbo Tuner is by far the most accurate, and also very small which is great for tight pedalboards.
That said, I sold mine and got a TU-3; it isn't nearly as accurate for setting intonation and stuff like that, but for quickly tuning up between songs I don't think there's an easier-to-read pedal tuner. I had and liked the Pitchblack, too, but I'm happiest with the Boss tuner. I also happen to like the buffer, because all of my other pedals are true bypass. |

I bought the polytune (full sized )for the poly thing specifically. I don't love it and I don't hate it. It's inconsistant I find. It seems to work flawless at home, but with the band, when I need it the most, it starts having trouble sensing which string I'm playing in chromatic mode (mostly with the low E). I even dampen all the other strings to cut out any sympathetic tones and it still gets confused. Sometimes I'll strum in poly mode and it'll jump back and forth between poly mode and regular mode as if it can't really tell if I'm playing all the strings, or just one.
Than at other times, it works fine. I bought it specifically for the poly mode though. Too many times on stage I hear someone is just slightly out of tune (just enough to sense things are 'off') and I start testing all my strings inbetween songs, not knowing if it's me, someone else, or just in my head. I thought the ability to quickly strum and see everything at once would be fantastic. And it is, but sometimes it doesn't work so well in my hands. I also quite often find a slight discrepancy between the two modes. Poly mode will often show my low E off a good bit, but in Chromatic mode, the E is in tune. -If I'm going to have to check it in chromatic mode anyways, the poly mode isn't really saving me any steps. |

I use a version of one of these.
http://www.examiner.com/article/revi...be-pedal-tuner The LCD displays does not wash out like my partner's Boss in bright outdoor situations and the the amber backlight makes it easy to read in dark situations and it is more accurate than the Boss. But I believe some people find the tuner hard to user due to the higher degree of accuracy. |
