Way Huge fans... I need help!!
For kicks(and with the help of my tax returns), I've decided to make a small Way Huge pedalboard.
I'm thinking 3 pedals, maybe 4, but probably 3. Anyway, the only one I know for sure is the AquaPuss. For sonic versatility, I'm unsure of what the other 2 should be. My local GC has a used Swollen Pickle, and I've been lusting for a Red Llama, but I'm worried about fuzzy overlap with the 2. Plus, I think it would be cool to do the Camel Toe(with the Green Rhino) What 3 Way Huge pedals would you use? Help! |

IMO, that is the best WHE pedal, period. It is one of a kind, and IMO is just better for blending clean and OD sounds.
The OD circuit is NOT straight-up TS, and the clean circuit is IMO really well thought out. Both circuits use a shared mosFET input buffer, which is kind of unusual, but boy does it work. And both circuits use a shared "blending" op amp stage, which again is just great design. Something like the Sparkle Drive (as cool as it might be, and I am a fan of the overall principle), is simply crude in comparison (not that crude or simple doesn't work in many instances). Many/most other WHE pedals are primarily straight-up derivatives of other pedal designs, albeit with some really clever tweaks here and there. There is obviously no Muff that sounds like a Swollen Pickle, because the tone stacks are so different in each. And the new RI Green Rhino has the 100Hz control, which clearly sets it apart from a stock TS. And most folks know what the Aqua Puss is derived from, but the price of it makes the AP a really good deal if you like the DM-2's analog slap characteristics. ...So the Pork Loin is just a really different stomp vs. most other WHE pedals, and all in good ways, IMO. Or for the sake of what you are doing, I would definitely have it as a strong contender with your choice of AP and one other. I think you can't go wrong with a Red Llama. Lots of folks consider them to be a one trick pony, but I think it's a good trick.

As far as the 2 WH pedals - definitely the Green Rhino and Red Llama. Love those pedals. I do want to try the Pork Loin and Fat Sandwich someday but the GR and RL (running them like a Camel Toe) is doin' it for me. I really love the WH reissues. Now if he'd just get off his @ss and reissue the CT then he'd be onto something. Then he can do more new stuff. But he has to reissue the CT. That's a classic. And it would be nice to have both pedals in one box AND put my others on other boards.

You cannot make a small pedalboard w/ WH pedals, they are bulky enclosures.
That said, the AP is limited but an excellent snapback pedal, a definite. The Green Rhino and the Red Llama stack well together. Never tried the Swollen Pickle or Pork Loin. |
