EHX freeze pedal alternatives

Given my overly analytical nature I am looking for all pedals that perform like the EHX freeze pedal. I am aware that the Boss ME-25 has a similar feature, but are there any others? Does the ME-70 do it as well? Are there any software alternatives?

I have no problem getting the Freeze, but I want to make sure I consider all the options.

I think the Freeze is your best bet. The EHX HOG has the freeze feature, along with a million other things, but it's around $4-500.

EHX does have a new pedal coming out that is a souped up Freeze, might wait for that. I think it's called the Superego?

Unfortunately, I can't help you with the Boss ME's or the software alternatives.

Forgot about the Superego thing. I like the idea of the ME25 having the looper as that's another on my list of pedal wants.

I know !!

I'd love to get the Freeze, JamMan, and the TC Flashback for total strange sound bliss but am trying to decide what I "need" first.

Hey Ghost,

Look into the used section of the Guitar Center website. You might find that stuff at a real reasonable price.

Probably not the Freeze, cuz it's cheap, and super-niche, but the looper and the delay for sure.

I got a Boss RC-20 XL last summer used from GC for $100. Awesome deal.
It changes the way you play, and improves the way you play too. I'd say looper, delay, freeze

(And if you want to get psychedelic, those are great choices)

I own the Boss ME-25.......it has the freeze effect and it is pretty cool! As I remember the ME-70 does not have it.......there are some usable effects in the ME-25......For 199.00 I think it is a bargain.

I have the ME-25 and like the freeze effect. I don't know if it's as good as the EHX, but the expression pedal on the ME-25 and the control of the freeze is very good. I used the me-25 freeze in the songs... Sneaky, Jelly Jam, and the end of Bug Walk in my link below.

Also, be aware that if you buy the FREEZE you cannot power it off of anything but the proprietary power supply.

All others DO NOT work with electro-harmonix products.

Companies just say that so you'll buy theirs. I'm powering 3 ehx pedals with other brand adapters and I'm not having any problems

Yeah, I had a weird hum going on when I was daisy chaining my freeze so I gave it its own supply and it went away. But when I got a pedal power power 2 I tried powering it with that, and it works great. So I think it just needs an isolated power source, but doesn't have to be special. If you look at the power supply that comes with the freeze, it has the same polarity, voltage, and milliamp specs as any other boss/ibanez adapter. So I think the issue is only with the freeze itself..... its just greedy, it needs a direct power source!

This being said, I love it, and agree with what has been said here. I really like the faux portamento/effects loop features of the superego, and it may suck me in when I have a few extra bucks.

I have had great luck with effects placement w the freeze. And honestly, a freeze and a looper is the way to go. This allows some crazy pad chords and ethereal stuff...
I do: dirt pedals>flashback delay>eh freeze>eh holy grail>eh clone theory chorus/vibrato (yes AFTER the verb and delay. its set to a junky lofi chorus and is strictly a sound effect type deal)>looper>phaser

i also power the holy grail with the pedal power, I know its not enough milliamps. I only run it on hall, w the mix about 3/4 of the way up, for crazy reverb stuff. the lower power gives a bit of dirt to the verb which I actually dig.

the combo of this pedal chain lets me hit the freeze with mod or tape delay weirdness from the flashback which results in interesting overtones. I can then drench it in verb, chorus it, loop and stack it in chords, and phase it. or any combo. And if you haven't tried to use a chorus set really fast and deep AFTER a long drenched reverb, I highly recommend it...

Just an update for the guys who might care.

I got a decent deal on a Digitech Timebender. I mainly bought it for the delay and 20 sec looper, figuring I could kill 2 birds that way, plus I like the harmony repeats it offered. Well, lo and behold, it has a hold feature. I just got this thing today so I'm pretty stoked about all this thing has.

Only complaints so far are: the Blue Tempo LED is fricken' bright, and the wet/dry mix is a little touchy.

Pretty happy so far.
