What's your favorite compressor?

Of course Keeley makes a great one, I also like the MXR Custom Comp and have heard good things about T. Rex, and since A-Designs/Pete's Place has no plans to release the BAC as a stomp box I guess I'm stuck with these. What's your favorite?

I have no problem with my CS3, but the Keeley is good too.

I just went back to the old standard stock Dyna Comp...I really like the fullness and color it adds...plus it's got lots of fun squish on tap...and it's red.

The only thing I don't like is the position of the stupid AC...wish it was on the top.

I also really like the Maxon CP101. Those are my favs.

Honorable mention goes to:
Rogue/Belcat Vintage Comp
DOD Milk Box and FX80B
Guyatone ST2

Keeley 4 knob. I've tried pretty much all of 'em but the Keeley is just perfect. More transparent than a Dyna Comp but not too transparent (optical).

DOD fx80. Love the sound and you can get one for next to nothing.

Really happy with my Seymour Duncan Doubleback. I've pretty much stopped looking for other compressors.

Also really like my BBE Orange Squash.

I've been so tempted lately in trading up for an Ego comp, but I still love the Tone Press... such a nice box.

I use a cheap little guyatone st2. I have tried visual sound, Joe meek and a few others and ended up going back to the guyatone. It has a little switch that mixes in the uncompressed signal if you want to boost the sustain without adding a lot of compression. Turn the switch to full compression and it does the job nicely. You cam find one on eBay for $60 or less.

I'm back to the DynaComp.

I went from DynaComp to AnalogMan CompROSSer to AnalogMan Juicer to DynaComp. This was a three year circle.

Simple, sounds great and I like the squish color.

The BBE Benchpress and DOD MilkBox are runners ups.

MXR Dyna Comp. I don't use it a lot, but it's there when I need it. Just like whiskey.

I too love the Maxon CP-101 and Wampler Ego, but I've been playing a Diamond for the past two months and wow, it's great! Set and forget, which I like. Plenty of transparency and squash on tap. The EQ distinguishes it from other comps. Great info about it on the Diamond site.

RAF Mirage - and I've had a LOT of different brands. This one beats them all by miles.

Right now, it's my Biyang Compress X for the following reasons:

- Dyna Comp clone
- very low noise vs. a DC
- really good bypass (millenium bypass)
- same simplicity/super small footprint as a DC
- fraction of the price of many other comps, with no performance sacrifices IMO

...The low price thing is more from a practicality/flexibility standpoint. I don't have to worry about it getting stolen. Or if it is, replacement is less painful. I can have more than one for different boards. Or I could have a pair, with one set for more squish, and one for way less.

But I primarily like that it really only improves on the DC-type comp, in a number of different ways that makes it hard (for me) to ignore. So it is probably non-applicable to many/most others.
