Has Anyone Outlived a Boss Pedal?

I have several, and I know that many people still have Boss pedals from decades ago that are bulletproof.

Has anyone managed to "use up" a Boss pedal?

I have a second hand Boss CE-2 that just died. I'm going to send it to Keeley for him to look at it. I think I'll have it modded aswell. Other than the CE-2 I've never seen a Boss pedal with a problem, even the ones that have been stepped on 1000 times.

I had a DD-3 that started making weird noises and then died. It's the only one of many Boss pedals that has ever failed me. My problem is that I keep selling them and then buying the same pedal again. I'm currently on my 3rd OD-3 and 2nd CH-1

I've had 2 TU-2 tuners go out on me. Probably repairable stuff for someone who knew what they were doing, but I had to quit using them.

Have seen lots of scratchy pots too.

My CE-2 was flaking out for a while, but once I replaced the switch I've never had a bit of trouble with it.

I have a DS1 and A Metal Core that both have power supply issues, so they die unless they are battery powered.

I've had one TU-2 Tuner permanently die on me and a BD-2 that I've owned since 06 broke in November 2011 from "stomp abuse" I had it fixed and it's as good as new.
That's as far as any of the BOSS gear I've had has broken down on me.

Are they Japanese Boss pedals ? IF they say "use Boss ACA adapter only" then thay need 12 volts to power them, not 9 volts. If you use a battery it does use 9 volts. If you use an adapter or other power supply it needs to be 12 volts, it converts to 9 volts inside the pedal.

My PH-2 is occasionally sketchy, I've had it for about 10 years though.

The FV500H I just got is probably going to outlast my house

I saw a DS-1 that had been stomped so many times the screw that holds down the footswitch wore a channel through the casing of the stompbox. Still had that early DS-1 sound.

Boss Octave pedal that my buddy owned had some issues, only worked on one octave below.

Overall the Boss pedals are pretty bulletproof.

And I've been surprised about how well a lot of the old USA made DOD pedals hold up too, even though they don't seem to be built as well as Boss pedals, I've owned some that were beat to death and still worked fine.

I have an ce2 that is really eat up. Bought it second hand and thought it was broken, but it turned out i just didnt know it just needed 12v (or daisy changed at 9v). But then the pots wore out. I replaced them and it's going strong again.

I have a CS-2 that seems to be on it's last legs... I think it's just a bad input jack but it's sick nonetheless.

Yes, me! But in the past, a couple of mine died at my own hands.
Hey, you gotta learn how to solder somewhere!

I have an 80's Dm-3 that needed a switch changed. $3 later, it still sounds perfect.

I modded a BD-2 to death but 11 Gauge resurrected it. Last heard it was alive and well in the piney woods up north.

I had a dd-2 that the foot switch died in.
However i own over 40 boss pedals and apart from that dd-2 they have all been solid and reliable.

Yeah I had a TU-2 that died mid gig... they replaced it for free. My bass player had the same thing happen and he had to buy a new one.

I have run thru a couple, with an asterisk. Analog pedals were usually something mechanical, like a switch (as has been the case with the S series Ibanez as well), whereas the digital Boss stuff, specifically their multi-effects units, seem to fall apart pretty easy after a while.

Their big brother, Roland, on the other hand...is a different story. For rack effects, as long as the battery is still good, that Roland stuff seems built well enough to outlast a nuclear holocaust.

Edit to add: production quality changed radically when they moved from Japan...just sayin
