Look for a used Lovepedal Les Lius (might find them in the $125 range) or the Tone Factor Mule (which is based on the Way Huge Red Llama) or Way Huge Red Llama ReIssue which sells new for $120.

+1 if you're looking for that Tweedy tone.

Red Llama did it first back in the 90's as a commercial pedal and the new reissue is spot-on the original. George Tripps is a masterful pedal builder and his arrangement with Dunlop keeps his prices very fair and reasonable.

As for red llama, I do not think, that it actually sounds as other "tweed pedal". More like a fuzzy drive, nice pedal, but not too close to other.

Really?

To date (prior to the new Wampler), the Red Llama has been my favorite Tweed pedal and the Lovepedal Les Lius has been my least favorite. The Red Llama set low-medium gain nails the sound of the 57 Champ or Deluxe cranked up. Instant Tom Petty, Neil Young, Joe Walsh, etc tone. Now when you crank it, yes it can get fuzzy but it's very chewy and thick and dark in the lower gain settings. I also enjoy the Rockbox Red Dog and the green Crunch side of my BOSS SD-2 for that boxy tweed small cranked amp tone. I dislike the LL mainly because it's super bright and harsh. The Red Llama is much darker. The Red Dog is somewhere between the two. I also want to try the Catalinbread Formula No 5 along with the new Wampler but I think the Tweed '57 will be the winner.

Totally agree on your Red Llama comments. There may be several variations on a theme with respect to "tweed" pedals, but the RL is definitely in that group, and the new reissue is super-high quality and an almost cheap price by today's boutique standards.

And, MASONish, no criticism here, just wondering - if you actually have a '57 Tweed amp, why do you need a pedal that emulates the sound of your own amp?

Actually I'm telling not about "how close it to the amp sound". I do not like that kind of thread. I just saying, that, looks like "tweed style" pedals tend to have some midrange. Not smooth TS-style mid-hump, but it gives some open sound. On the other hand, RL more into Fuzz Face style tone. Totally flat response. It's not a good or bad thing, but, as I can hear on Wampler '57 demo, RL would not the same thing. Yes, both of them fuzzy and "tweedy", but I do not think, that they would feels like the same thing.

Yeah, the RL gets fuzzy at higher gain settings but can produce a nice tweedy od at lower settings - kinda unique in that it goes from overdrive to fuzz without any distortion in the middle.

Another option not mentioned so far is the Greer Ghetto Stomp - tweedy with a little bit of bite to it.

I bought a Formula No. 5 a few months ago. While demoing it, Lance realized how much it sounded like my Zvex Distortron... He fiddled with a few knob and I had the same sounds out of both pedals. The Distortron ahs afew more controls, like this new Wampler pedal. And I knew the FN5 would sell for more (although I ended up trading it for a Fuzzy Lady and am totally happy with that deal).

Still love my Distortron. It sits on my board and goes with em everywhere.

My Menatone WMB (JTM-45 in-a-box) also sounds pretty "tweed-style", but not so tight as Fn5, but better on lower gain settings with more "wide" frequency response.

Anybody here win the '57 Twin pedal from the Wampler "guess a number between 1-3000"? I guessed 1957 along with probably everyone else. 57 maybe?

i was planning on buying a Plexi Drive, but then i stumbled upon the '57. And it looked even nicer to spend 200$ on, so i bought it this morning when it was officially announced for sale on Facebook.. I'm sure the Plexi Drive will also be on my board soon enough though.

This will be my first Wampler, never even played one before..but i'm guessing the '57 will be a keeper :)

My Wampler Tweed 57 arrived yesterday. Ordered Monday! That was surprisingly fast. It can sound very similar to my Lovepedal Les Lius which I have enjoyed for quite a while. I always wished I could tweek the tone a bit more and get a bit more of a fuller sound out of the Les Lius. The Tweed 57 seems to be able to do all that. You can really shape your sound with the 3 tone adjustments and the 3 input options provide a nice variety of base tone. The Lovepedal Les Lius switch offers some nice tones as well with the option of the separate gain boost foot switch which is great. Sonically the Tweed 57 is much more versatile and sounds great. If you like the sound of the Lovepedal Les Lius you will like the Tweed 57. I use a tele, DGT, and EJ strat thru a drri and they all had some great sounds with the Tweed 57. I forgot to add that it is nicely touch sensitive. Very responsive to pick/finger attack and guitar volume. Cleans up very well.

I'm looking for something that will add a little tweed bassman flavor to my Deluxe. Will this fit the bill?
