What's your favorite delay pedal?

I'm in the market. What do you guys use and think?

Have you tried the Boss DD-7?

I bought one a few years back and it sounds great with no history of problems.

Thinking of a Behringer DD400 or 600 myself, I would like some reports myself on this subject so thanks for asking the question

Question #1 is always, "what's your budget?"

If you have $500 to spend, you'll get one set of answers.
If you have $100 to spend, you'll get a different set of answers.

Also, what do you want to use it for? if you answer, "play like the Edge", that's one set of recommendations; if you answer, "play like Bill Frisell", that's a different set of recommendations.

Please state as much detail as you can to help people give you better answers.

Cheaper (sub-$250) boxes: Way Huge Aqua Puss. Be on the lookout for the Supa Puss soon.

Something that does a little of everything, slap, swell, edge type stuff a little. And a tap tempo is necessary. Try to keep it under $150

I use a M13 and a Vox Time machine. Both are very flexible and have great tone, and have tap tempo. Check out the timemachine, sounds like it might fit your needs and budget.

You could probably pick up a memory boy deluxe for around $130 used. It sounds pretty sweet and has tap tempo and built in chorus/vibrato. It has it's own effects loop for the repeats alone and you can use an expression pedal to modify delay time/depth of chorus and other things.

I love my HardWire DL-8. Has a cool backwards guitar feature, tap tempo and a looper built in. I got mine for $110.00.

I was going to ask for what applications, too.

I have 5 delay pedals, and there is no overlap between what any of them do. I've got one that will do a single repeat and no more, and it is great for that. I haven't found another one that does it the same. I have a DD-2 with some mods that works for one specific mini-board of other pedals, and it is "the one" for that application. I have two different analog delays on the big board, and they sound nothing alike.

But you said tap tempo - that kind of narrows things down quite a bit. Doesn't one of the new(er) T.C. Electronics delay pedals do that? I wouldn't know, because I have 5 friggin' delay pedals...

Someone else mentioned a EHX delay with the tap tempo thing. That might be in your price range.

Thanks guys, I have a line 6 echo park that's kind of broken and makes a lot of noise. I would get a dl-4 if I had the space and money for it. I'm thinking maybe tc electronics, just or the polytune mini and I love it. On paper their delay looks best.

Boss DD-7 for a regular size pedal, Line 6 DL4 if you have the board space for a large pedal. Love these 2 pedals. The DL4 is especially sweet once you get the hang of it. Having 3 delay presets to use at a gig has proven to be very helpful.

I own a DM2 and DD3. If I were buying a delay pedal it would be the Flashback. Its got everything you want plus does the loop thing.

For analog in my opinion is the DM-2. The Carbon Copy gets really close to it. I have theBBE dual delay (or whatever it is called) which is based on the DM-2. Very nice pedal.

In the digital area, i own the Boss RV-3 and think there's no other pedal (that i know of) that does the strong staccato think like it does. It also trails off the effect when you turn it off. I use this feature a lotvwhen i need to change lots of pedals. I leave the delay on, turn on and off whatever i need to and turn delay off while playing the new sounds. (did it make any sense??)

+1 on the TC Electronic Flashback. Best pedal hands down!

proguitarshop.com just released a new version with 2 new sounds on it. One to emulate David Gilmour's Echorec And I think the other is the EHX Vintage memory boy. I you can get your hands on that one I would do it for sure.

Do yourself a favour and check out the 'toneprint' technology on these things. It's awesome!!

I love my el Capistan. I own it and my T-Rex Replica. Both in my opinion, are exceptional sounding and easy to use live.

Kept the two above: and sold these.
Eventide Timefactor
Strymon Timeline
Diamond Memory Lane 2
Boss DD20
Line6 DL4
Boss DD5
BBE Two Timer
Strymon Brigader
TC Electronic Nova Delay
and I am certain there is something else. Just can't remember at the moment.
