Why new MXR Dyna Comp are considered so bad?

Here in this forum and in others guitar site, when people speaks about compressors, most says that the vintage Dyna Comp, the ones produced in the 70s, are very good pedals, but the new ones are not the same.
There's a market of these vintage pedals like the pre-CBS Fender, in order to get the genuine Dyna Comp.

So, what's the difference between the old and the new, and why the new Dyna Comps are considered so bad?

The block logo and the script are slight different circuits with a different chip.
(Not 100% true- some block logo ones have the script logo circuit but not many)

You don't need to get an old one- Analogman do a mod or you can buy a script logo reissue.

Solution: MXR Custom Comp. Best of both worlds. I bought the CS Script Phase 90 and it is in the same boat; sound of old, features of new.

Another solution is the MXR Bass Comp.
It is insanely good. Though quite a bit more expensive..

I've owned a few Dyna-Comps over the years, but my early block logo pre-Dunlop is the keeper. And for $35 at a pawn shop I can't complain.

As for why I like it better, all I can say is that it sounds "warmer" or more "organic" to me. Sorry for the cork-sniffer terms, but I don't know how else to describe it.

the new dyna comp is a fine pedal. i like it better than the custom shop '76 reissue. neither of them sound much like my real '75 script dyna, but the regular dyna comp has a more neutral EQ. if real script is out of the question, get an analogman comprossor. also, even though it's optical, the maxon CP101 sounds crazy close to my '75 script, and it can be had used for nothing.

Some folks believe old stuff is always better. That's why I sold all my old stuff for many dollars and play all new Boss pedals. Did the same with my guitars. Playing 40+ years.

I have the script reissue. It is the classic sound yet the downside is no LED and I have a 9v cable hanging off the thing.

Some days I love it, some days I pull it and use my Barber Tone Press.

I don't believe old stuff sounds
better. But the new DC just doesn't
sound like either of the originals
I had once upon a time. With the
new DC, you can't dial out the hard
squash the way you could with the originals.
And they sound harsher to my ear.

Thanks

Thanks to all for the suggestions, I've never considered others MXR compressors, but I'll try Custom Comp and others reissues.

But now I've others questions: what do you mean with block logo and script logo?

Am I the only one who thinks the IN/OUT jacks and footswitch on the new ones suck?

I found no problems with the block logo DynaComps. I think they work great and I love them... and YES I did own a vintage script logo DynaComp and two block logos. A+B+C tests provided no discernible difference to my ears... But I am an old guy...

One of our forum buddies now owns it.

Oh, and the original vintages had DynaComp written in script. Where as the modern ones have it written in block letters.

I've been using Dyna comps since the mid 70's when they first came out...HBE retro nails the sound of the script Dynos for a reasonable price IMO.

Script\block logos -

The the first generation DC had script logo.
The second generation (still original vintage)
had a block logo. The block logo came out in 1979
or 1980 if memory serves.

Unlike modern re-issue block logo MXR DC,
these had no LED's.

And yes the jacks on the new MXR DC are terrible
in my opinion.
