Fuzz for Fender

I own a vintage Super Reverb, and am having a really tough time finding a good fuzz for it... I'm looking for a fuzz that has a real sputtery, gainy, sustainy lead sound. Any suggestions?

if you want the dramatic, sputtery fuzzes that can really twist- might want to check out the Devi Ever lineup as it seems like they almost specialize in the voltage/biased-starved fuzzes, not too much $$ either

Sputtery and sustainy?

We need more info. What kind of sound are you looking for?

Band or artist wise?

I'd have to say Devi Ever as well, for what the OP is looking to do.

Sputtery (gated? that's kinda the opposite of sustain) makes me think voltage starve. Not sure if I'm taking "sputtery" to mean the same thing you do though - maybe I'm thinking "splatty." Are they synonyms? Talking about dirt sounds is almost as bewilderingly abstract as describing wine - "glassy, with a woody aftertaste and a subtle hint of diode clipping".

One easy/cheap idear might be the danelectrode power supply, just throw it on a fuzz or dirtbox you already have. Voodoo Labs PP2+ can starve too if you are already using that.

I have a Mellowtone Wolf Computer (IIRC a boosted silicon fuzzface at heart) and it has a voltage starve pot right on the top along with a "squelch" control for gating, which one might think of as an "anti-sustain". A truly wild and unruly fuzz, and touchy, very sensitive to slight tweaking and guitar volume/tone, especially when starved. Lots of gnarly, amp-exploding, velcro sounds in it. Fun!

+1 for Zvex Fuzz Factory. That thing will make some truly crazy sounds.

Sorry! Splatty does sound like what I mean, Chip, maybe I'm confusing terms... Fuzz factory or devi sounds about right, any other suggestions though? Artistwise, I'm actually not sure. I'm looking for a (very) hotrodded Hendrix sound....
Sorry for my ignorance- I'm a little bit of a gear noob!

For sputtery, splatty, gated, rough fuzz, I absolutely love my Fuzzy Lady from Plum Crazy effects. It's got a bias knob right on top that'll take it down to an almost dead battery and completely unpredictable sound. It spits and sputters, chokes on itself! Or, you can crank it back up to reality and it has a nice fuzz tone that drives the amp pretty good. You cna give it just a little bit of sputtery, choking goodness, as stated before totally choked out or avoid it all together. It's a very interesting pedal!

But, if you're thinking more grindy sound, I like my Danelectro Cool Cat Fuzz (it's a Frantone Peach Fuzz clone, supposedly).

Until I got my Fuzzy lady (in a trade) I had been looking at Devi's U.S. Fuzz.

The fuzz that actually sits on my board all the time, because it is the most useful one I've found is my Keeley Fuzz Head. It adds mounds of dirt and distortion on top of my signal, but is very predictable. So, it works best for live stuff.

Something like a more modern Fuzz Face ,or perhaps this! Jump around the video, it's kind of long, but there is a diaperload of sounds in this thing.

I just got his 1967, a clone of the Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face from daahhr...1967. Dennis uses really nice stuff inside his pedals. Stuff is solid.

For the weirdness you're describing, I've gotta suggest Devi Ever. For a "hot rodded Hendrix" sound, you're likely looking for something muff-like, so, I'd look into the Hyperion. As a secondary option, you might also take a look at the Torn's Peaker.

Happy hunting!

www.wilsoneffects.com

Kevin has a new pedal based on the Baldwin Buzzaround called the Fubar Bliss

Plus he has a full range of fuzz boxes all handbuilt and at reasonable prices.

A Garnet (Canadian) bass amp has a real nice Fuzz, 50 watts 6l6 tube head, pretty keen, Ask ELO?

I'm going through the exact same issue looking for a fuzz with good sustain. Ordered a Devi Ever Shoegazer but am currently waiting in the build queue. I'd recommend checking their stuff out, the demo's sound great.
