I like my AC Booster, it pretty much satisfies my desire for a TS-type pedal with separate EQ controls and a responsive tonal range.

No actually a boost, but I am using Catalinbread Silver Kiss like a slightly dirty (for a little compression and grit) boost for solos. Sounds wonderful, especially on neck pickup.

I know Tarnisher was talking about the Dano "Fish N Chips" here, but I use a GE-7 clone the same way when I want a clean boost pedal with my AC30.

Currently I'm not using the EQ, as my board has limited real estate and I'm playing through a Visual Sound Route 66, which is a bit of a space-hog. I'm using the comp side as a flat boost- "sustain" down around 7 o'clock, "tone" flattish (around 10-11 o'clock) and "gain" up around noon.

When I use my Ibanez TSA amp, it has a built-in 6db clean boost and a Tube Screamer. So I don't use an outboard dirt pedal or booster at all..

A Mister Super Duper Crybaby Volume Wah (or something like that)

A volume pedal w/ a scratchy wah and a switchable boost.

Why do I use it ?

It was $30

Damn - that sounds high now that I think about it

I wish I could say I paid $15...

I use an MXR Micro amp. It is clean, simple, I like the way it looks, takes up very little space and it works great in the upper register. I play mostly cleanish, and a big part of my soundis cranking a Fender tube amp, then backing off on the volume to get that clean sparkle with a good chunk of grit. To ensure the volume and balls are still there as well, I put the Micro Amp into the chain to kep the guitar signal and other effects healthy and in line. Just a hair of high end gets in there.
I also use the DOD Classic Fuzz fpr the same reason, though that adds more low end and goes last in the chain. I turn up the volume and treble all the way, and back off the fuzz to almost zero. The pedal is naturally very bassy, so having the tone all the way up still gives me low end crunch. I use a Fish n Chips EQ for the mid range "clean boost". Three pedals for three different clean boost applications that can be done on the fly and mix and match together well for a varied amount of OD, boost, and swagger.
Total for all three is under $100 used.

Boost function of Maxon ROD881. The Maxon is on pretty much all the time (except when I'm playing dead clean) and the boost function adds 10dB of gain/volume, which is perfect for leads and such. The color that the pedal adds is already part of my sound, so boosting the pedal really doesn't change my tone at all. It just adds that extra grit and volume that I need to solo.

Just to be clear, I'm not "rolling back to clean up". With guitar volume at 7ish I have the rhythm tone I want, dirty/clean, whatever. Then when I solo I just turn it up for louder.

I dont know how muxh "louder" you're really getting from 7 to 10. Are you doing this in a band setting, especially with another guitar player? Thats never worked for me. From 7 to 10 you, I get more gain, NOT more volume. Thats why the volume knob thing never works for me. To get more volume, my rhythm has to be on about 5 or 6, and I dont like the rhythm tone.

I use different pedals for different boosts, to do different things. For a clean boost I use a simple graphic EQ and push the mids up. For a dirt boost, I have quite a few different pedals that I goof around with, it depends on the band I'm playing with, and what their setup is... which one will sound the best. With a Marshall, nice full hot-rodded rythym sound, its hard to go wrong with a plain old Boss BluesDriver for a lead boost.

MHP all the way!

I use my MHP Galaxie Mod BD-2 for my boost pedal. It is just sooooo warm and retains the full clarity and tone of my natural guitar. I use it with the tone set at 3:00 and the gain at 0. Volume set to taste for proper boost levels.

Originally I used an OD pedal with my CC Squire 51 to warm it up and get breakup. I've found that since changing to playing a strat I don't really need an overdrive pedal that often. The pickups are warm and the guitar just has the base tone I've needed all this time. My BD-2 does double duty as my OD and my clean warm boost and I just use that and roll in a liiiiiiittle gain for breakup if needed instead. If I need to boost my Tiki Drive from fat distortion-od into 80's metal zones I've got plenty of boost on tap with the Galaxie Modded BD-2.

For the price of a pack of boutique flatwounds, you can get a useful, gigworthy boost preamp.

Some are dark on this brand.

So, use your "fab-meter" to see if it's for you.

P.S. Heartily endorsed by me, for what that's worth.

I use my Way Huge Pork Loin. I crank the volume up and leave the overdrive at half with the clean blend on full. Acts as a great clean boost that pushes the amp into a natural overdrive while simultaneously injecting a nice fat dirt tone from the pedals overdrive.

Nocturne Atomic Boost. Its the best preamp out there for the style of country / rockabilly that I play. It just gooses the hell out of the Vox preamp and makes everything Setzer-ish.

Zvex SHO, the old one with the hand painted flower and the bee. It sounds outrageous with my Victoria amps, especially my Bassman.

I use a Barge Concepts Double boost offered to me in a trade. I never heard of it but figure I'd try it. It's perfect. 2 separate Boosts, cascaded and with an effects loop if desired. What I like about it is the perfectly clean boost which doesn't darken or brighten my signal. I use one side as a dedicated boost for leads and the other side to even out volume between different instruments.

I use a Durham Electronics Sex Drive. It's a pretty awesome pedal in my opinion. You can add some compression to the boost but I find that it cuts the amount of boost available. Mostly I just dime the bugger and smile.

I also have an MXR MicroAmp and a Pharoah Class A Booster. Both of which are very good boost pedals but are now retired to the dusty box of unused gear :)

I use a Korg Tone Booster TNB-1, 80's pedal. I bought it at a really nice price used.

Sometimes I also use my Boss Blues Driver as booster
