I use 2, Bad Bob boost & my drive pedal King Of Tone has a boost side to it. Why? Analogman makes the best boost circuits out there IMHO although they just started making the Bad Bob in 2010 after the original maker stopped making it. At any rate, great boosts ;)

I like boosts, I have 3 in my current setup. Though I only use one individual boost pedal. First in my boost chain I have a D*A*M Red Rooster. Then after that there is the yellow side of my Analog Man KOT. Finally my Kingsley Jester has a boost side. Basically it's a germanium boost first, which gives a slightly fuzzy edge to my sound. Next a regular op-amp boost with the KOT that can have a little extra clipping via it's diodes. Finally the tube based boost on the Kingsley. They all have different textures.
I like to stagger the distortion in my rig. I prefer lots of gain stages clipping slightly over just one or two doing it very heavily. Running boosts at different points allows me to fiddle with what is clipping and when. |

I have been using a BBE Boosta Grande for about a month now as my "gateway boost". I had been interested in using a boost, so I scored one on Craigslist pretty cheap and have been using it. I like the simiplicity of just having one knob and it doesn't seem to color my tone, just make it louder. I wish it wasn't so huge though, for what it does. I will probably upgrade in the future, but it meets my needs at the moment.

BBE Boosta Grande user here. It is a bit big, but i set it off to the side of my pedal board so i can locate it quickly.
it is a good boost that doesn't color my tone too much. I use it in an effects loop, so I can't say how it works in front of an amp like the AC15. |

Used to have a T. C. Jauernig Luxury Drive as part of the Gristle King. Loved it, but hated the DGTM so sold the pedal. I'll have another Luxury Drive one day....

Xotic EP Booster for the reasons previously mentioned. GE-7 also makes a good boost, but I use mine as an EQ and engage the EP when I need a boost between guitars or pups, especially between a bucker and split-coil bucker.

RE: whats your boost pedal and why?
VL Sparkle Drive - It has a mix know that you can mix the clean sound with overdrive/distortion.

I have an E Wave 9th Sky (about half way down here).
It was cheap on eBay...50 dollars or something...but it's the clearest and most transparent pedal imaginable, and with the gain right off and the volume up it's a fantastic mild clean boost. Absolutely no noise, and with its tone control you can add a touch of top end clarity without altering anything else about your rig's tonal character. It has a very good true bypass as well. I also have the E Wave delay pedal. It's my favorite delay ever. |

For me I use my CS3 compressor or my GE7 EQ. Both do an excellent job of boosting depending what you are after. My favorite way however, is to just leave room on the volume knob on my guitar. This always seems to be the most practical for me.

I use a $30 Danelectro Fish N Chips EQ.
I keep the EQ sliders at the middle, but push up the volume slider. It goes after all my drives and fuzzes, and when I click it on, I hear the same thing but louder. The problem with the volume knob is that changing the output before the dirt boxes affects the tone you get out of them. I like the way that my pickups sound on full blast for rhythm parts. Using a boost, I can get the sound I want independent of the volume, then use the boost as a master volume without changing the sound. One more thing about the Fish- it's nice and small, and light too, thanks to the plastic box.

Just picked up a Danelectro Cool Cat V2 Drive for like 40 bucks. Screamin from clean boost to dirty as hell. Lets see how it holds up but I'm loving it.

I don't always use a boost but when I do I use a Z.Vex Super Hard-On..
Because it has a monkey on it.

No, I don't have a treble bleed cap on my Strat's volume control but actually the slight loss of treble when I turn down works for me. |

I built a super hard on clone for about $20. Nice, clean boost with plenty of gain. I'm not thrilled with the "crackle", I hear there are versions out there that don't crackle. Biggest let down, no monkey

I've been using a 65 Amps Colour Boost for a couple of months. Much more versatile than I had expected to be honest and it's on the board all the time now. Four basic tonal choices in combination with a gain knob (and the guitar volume) and it's a great piece of kit.
