Ibanez TS9 30th Anniversary
Today I picked up the new anniversary ts9 with the JRC4558D chip and played it through an ac15 with a tele today at work. I was super surprised! It sounds great!! Just thought I would share!!

Buying one next week! Going to trade in my old TS9 instead of having it modded and get this one... I love that it has the right JRC chip.
Thanks for the gut shots confirming the chip - I hadn't seen any pics yet. |

Does anyone know for certain if there are any differences other than cosmetic between this 30th anniv, TS-9 and the GC $99 TS-9?
I know the new one is advertising the JRC 4558 chip, what does the off-the-shelf one have? I thought it was the same. no? edit: answered my own question, the $99 TS-9 has TA7558 chip (as I learned on TGP), and Dave Hunter ( in Guitar Effects Pedals) , states that this is in current production TS-9 and TS-9DX (Turbo TS), and " is described by some as much loathed...." I just thought it was funny to 'loath' a chip- but we guitarist are passionate! Thankfully, my Biyang " Mad Driver" TS ($50) does have the JRC 4558D as well so that's comforting, no fear and loathing

^Did the gut shot come from Ibanez? I'm just saying its not mentioned at all in the official specs. I'm not doubting it contains this chip - but any mention of it seems to be missing from any of the advertisements I've seen for this pedal.

With the long history of of the Tube screamer and its many incarnations its not as if they are not aware these details matter to some. Someone may want to mention that to marketing. Just my 2 cents. I love the tube screamer and would not want to be without one.

I know it's weird that they say nothing about the chip. I actually think highly of them for just making a very nice pedal with good components. They can very easily advertise that they contain the JRC chip and are made with good components and charge 100 more for it and I would buy it. For the people that ask, yes they are made in Japan And I'm not positive but I am pretty sure they are NOT true bypass. With that said it seems the buffer is good on them And I didn't notice any tone suck at all with the pedal off

I believe a TA7558. I don't like the TA chips at all in a Tubescreamer pedal. They sound very muddy and not as rich as the JRC4558. The JRC is a big part of what makes a TS a TS.... I prefer an 808 sound over a modern 9 sound so the new TS9 interests me a lot as I prefer it's stomp switch to that little itty bitty square on the TS808 reissue and I am not interested in the 808HW reissue because for that price I'd buy a Rockbox Boiling Point which sounds way more versatile and clear to my ears.
