Joyo Vintage Overdrive_ Is it any good ?

I recently went to GC and tried the Ibanez ts808 reissue. It was AWESOME. But I don't think I'm willing to pay $170 for it. Is the Joyo even half as good ? I think it's unfair to compare the two but for $40 you can't beat it or is it too good to be true. I'm looking for something to swap out with my vintage boss df-2. I'm not a big fan of the distortion sound. I'm more of a creamy overdrive kinda guy. The joyo claims to be True Bypass, but once again it sounds to good to be true. The 808ri isn't even true bypass. So my question is- Should I buy the Joyo or wait and save up for an 808 ? I think it is rediculus to spend over $120 for a simple overdrive pedal. Is the 808 just so much money because of the name on it ? What do you guys think of the Joyo ? If it's any good I might aswell try it and if I don't like I lost $40. That's better than losing $170. Let me know what you think.....

I like the UD better than my OCD. I like the AC Tone better than my Tech 21 Blonde. I say go for it and don't look back.

They aren't true bypass but they sound like they are. Only drawback is if you lose power to the pedal it doesn't pass signal in bypass. Not a huge deal.

You like the UD better than an OCD ! Now that is hard to believe, but I'll take your advice. That is what I figured (for $40 why not.) So they aren't true bypass ? I'm positive I read somewhere that they are TB. It doesn't suprise me it's not. In fact it's kind of reasurring considering the price. I think I'll go ahead and buy one off ebay from a US dealer. If I don't like it, oh well it's only 40 bucks.

I also like my ultimate drive more than the OCD

My UD is just as good as my OCD (sad but true) and my Vintage Overdrive sounds just as good as any Tube Screamer I ever played (they use the same 4558 chip as the real deal), and the Joyos are indeed True Bypass, as well. It's not too good to be true, it's just more of the same: labor and manufacturing costs a lot less in China than it does in the US. Plus, they're lean and hungry and forward looking and often willing to settle for a lower profit margin.

I gotta say, after buying a bunch of Joyo pedals and finding out how great they are, it's gonna be a bit tougher to stomach boutique prices in the future. Mind you, I do not begrudge any builder their asking price, but unless it's something very unique I'm after, I see lots of Joyo/Biyang/Moen/Caline pedals in my future.

likewise...

My Joyo Ultimate Octave is stupid-quiet, even when maxed out.
I did the 'cap-swap' mod (c9 and c15 are the wrong way around).

The octave is now very present and the more I play it, the harder it is for my ears to believe it.

The fuzz itself is actually good, but with the octave, its as good as a foxx tone machine I had... no kidding.

It will surely be a fine choice , if you want a budget TS.
It is a TS-808 'clone' (aside from the bypass) made with good components and well screwed together. I found a guts shot of one a while back - they really do seem to have good components.
All other consideration aside - if you liked the TS808, you will be 'safe' with the Joyo.

And if, for some reason you are not happy, just sell it on - probably for close to what you paid for it.
I sold a Joyo on eBay for more than I had paid for it new.

I have the Joyo Crunch Distortion for my occasional very dirty needs.
Excellent pedal. Very, very much like an MI Audio Crunch Box .. 'surprisingly'... ;)

Also check out the Biyang 'Baby Boomer' OD - similar, but a little dearer (and three TS 'voices')

This is what I got a few months ago- love my little 'Mad Bomber' (it's actually from the Biyang Baby Boom Series) Sounds good, looks good- green light too! Cheap, but sounds like a "TS" to me

I found a couple of those biyang pedals on CL a couple weeks ago but someone must have got them. I guess those cheap chinese pedals are good. I don't have any fancy pedals, in fact the fanciest thing I have is a keeley modded boss sd-1. If the vintage od is that good I'm totaly getting it. I'm interested in the UD aswell but I think I'll start with the VOD first. Is the tone realy that convincing? I didn't want to mention this, but does it get that SRV sound. FYI I do use a super reverb so I've got that far hehehe. I'm gonna see if I can find some good youtube clips of the joyo pedals and maybe I'll find another one I like. Who knows, I might just build two boards. One for gigs and I'll leave one at church. That would be nice(one less thing to carry)

It totally gets the SRV sound. I mean, there's no way anyone's gonna do a blindfolded listening test and mistake it for anything else. It's a quality pedal. Well built and cheap too. What's not to love?

That's what I thought. I think I'll go for it. Why not? It seems like a great pedal for the price.

Oh, and the Biyang, Moen, Caline, all seem to be of the same quality. I also have the Biyang X-Drive OD8 (another Tube Screamer clone) which has an interchangeable chip socket - affordable, sounds fantastic and well built. Apparently it's the same thing as the Biyang Baby Boomer TS clone.

Also, worth mentioning: The Caline OD (BB Pre-Amp clone) and the Joyo Crunch Distortion (an MI Crunch Box clone) and both are fantastic. The thing is, once you discover just how damn good and affordable these units are, you'll probably want several -- like the phasers, compressors and tremolos which I also picked up.

Great sounding, easy to afford Chinese clone pedals are my new addiction. And it doesn't break the bank. No angry wife. Happy me.

My Biyang 'Mad Driver' (albeit w/o the chipset) is basically the same as this, but in a smaller box- check out this demo:

I hope I don't go "pedal crazy" with the chinese clones. They are just so cheap I can't even comprehend. I looked at the Caline BB preamp clone and it looks like a good contender for the price. I might spring for that instead of the UD. I'm still sticking with my gut to get the vintage od but they have so many od clones it's hard to choose.

Chiogtr4x, that was a great demo, for sure. And, yea, I understand the X-Drive OD-8 is the same thing. Can't beat either of 'em, I'd say.

I probably love my Caline just as much as my Joyo UD, and at those prices I didn't really have to choose. I own the TS clones, too. It's really nice being able to buy 3 or 4 great pedals for the price of one boutique unit.

joyo vintage overdrive is closest to my old ts808 as i find, i wish someone can open it up to confirm is ts808 clone.

joyo has exactly correct "squish" and "mojo juice".

Yeah, the Vintage Overdrive is the real deal. I got mine before this Joyo craze took off, before people really widely knew about them, and have had it ever since. It's not going anywhere. I'm really interested in trying out the Ultimate Drive.

How does this Joyo Vintage OD compare to my MXR Classic OD (the green Guitar Center exclusive one) ?? Is the Joyo more tube screamer-ish??
